The government's proposed cuts to public services will disproportionately affect women as women are usually the main caregivers of children and use public services more.
For this reason some members are joining the anti-cuts movement.
This Thursday (ie tomorrow), at 6pm, there is an Anti-Cuts Campaign Meeting in the David Hume Tower Conference Room. This is to discuss an anti-cuts alliance on campus. There will also be a discussion about the Progressive Alliance McAsh was talking about last week.
Also, on Saturday 23rd October at 11am there will be a march organised by the Scottish Trade Unions Congress called 'There is a Better Way'. Starting at East Market Steet.
- Who has the banner so we can take it along?
- There will be a Feminist Society social afterwards

Abi reported back that The Student were not going to run a comment piece about 'Pimp My School' as it was too specific an issue and that if we re-wrote it more generally about use of language and being political correct then they would consider it. Is anyone willing to edit/write a new piece along these lines for the student newspaper? If so email myself or Abi. We will still be sending the letter of complaint to EUSA.
Also at the explosive EUSA AGM last night, me (Órla), Abi and Laura waiting until question time to query the sabbaticals about using the term pimp. Laura read out the definition and queried whether it was appropriate use of language and then Abi had a follow up question/comment about how language still does matter and that the campaign has generated quite a big of negative feedback, lots of which had been received by fem soc.
On that note I got an email from a lovely non-student called Corene who had seen the campaign on campus and was equally as offended as 'Fem Soc' and congratulated us on our efforts. I also added her to the mailing list and invited her to attend any future events ... it's always nice to get feminists from outside university involved!
