HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa: AIDS Orphans and Children's Rights
Every day, around 1,000 children are newly infected with HIV.
Speakers:
Lady Brigid Crofton - former vice-chair and trustee of UNICEF UK. Lady Crofton was given an OBE for services to children and families overseas. UNICEF UK is working around the world to protect children from HIV and raise awareness about HIV globally.
Sabita Banerji - Marketing and Communications Officer of Cecilys Fund. Cecily's fund enables more than 8,500 children who have been orphaned because of AIDS to go to primary and secondary school, with the same uniforms and equipment as other children, so they are not stigmatised by their situation. It also raises awareness about sexual health to school leavers. Sabita joined Cecilys Fund after a successful twelve and a half year stint working in various communications roles at Oxfam. Sabita was born and brought up in India and she has strong family ties with Oxford, through her English mother.
Nalini Asha - a graduate student at St. Antony's college specializing in the development of public-private partnerships in preventing HIV/AIDS in Botswana.
The Hosts: The Oxford UNICEF Society and StopAIDS raises awarness about AIDS as well as fundraising through fun events.
Audience discussion will follow presentations from each member of the panel. We hope this will be an informative evening for all involved.
