The 27th annual TRASH Homebrew Competition will be held on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at Helicon Brewing in Oakdale. The competition web site is live. Judge and Steward registration is now open! Entry registration opens on Thursday, February 23rd at 7:00 PM and closes on Friday, March 24th at 7:00 PM.
Please sign up to judge or steward here:
http://trashcompetition.org/
The competition is not open to the public - only those who have signed up to judge or steward should arrive at 8:00 AM. A separate calander event and invitation will be sent out for the post-competition awards banquet, which will take place at Helicon during the evening of April 8th after judging concludes.
If you are interested in volunteering but have never been to a BJCP competition before and aren't sure what that entails, please sign up to steward. No experience is required. The job of a steward is to assist a pair of judges. A steward's duties include fetching beers to be judged from the cooler, organizing score sheets after the judges have completed them, and soaking in the experience of a homebrew compeition.
A light breakfast of bagels, donuts, fruit, and coffee will be provided for all volunteers before the first round of judging, and lunch will be provided between the morning and afternoon rounds.
The competition is capped at 300 entries. There is a 15 entry per brewer limit. The entry fee is $7 per beer/cider/mead. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in every category, and there are major awards for Best of Show, Best low-abv beer, and the Turtle Creek Award - given to the brewer who amasses the most points (5 for gold, 3 for silver, 1 for bronze). Full rules and details are available on the competition site.
As is always the case with the competition, we need help from everyone to pull this off. It's a big endeavor, and we need the whole club to chip in to keep this longstanding tradition rolling. Please save the date and sign up to judge or steward at trashcompetition.org.
Cheers!
