On February 12th and 13th, 80 student leaders from universities across the UK will gather at Oxford University in order to place students at the forefront of the UK’s battle against climate change. As the first student conference to respond to the disappointing outcomes of Copenhagen, the Oxford Climate Forum will provide student leaders with a unique opportunity to decide how students can take a leading role in maintaining the momentum of the climate change agenda.
Over 20 experts from the fields of environmental change, politics and business will lead a wide range of workshops, panel discussions, keynote addresses and networking sessions at which delegates will gain the skills, passion and connections that will enable them to make a significant contribution to the campaign against climate change. Confirmed speakers include:
- Lord Anthony Giddens, world-leading sociologist, former Director of the LSE, and author of over 40 books including the critically acclaimed The Politics of Climate Change
- Daniel Vockins, Campaign Manager of the 10:10 Campaign and former Campaign Coordinator for the independent film The Age of Stupid.
- Professor Dieter Helm, CBE. Professor of Energy Policy at Oxford University, Chairman of the Academic Panel at DEFRA and a member of the Advisory Panel on Energy and Climate Security at the UK Department for Energy and Climate Change.
- Kresse Wesling, Founder and Director of EaKo, UK Social Enterprise Ambassador, and winner of the 2007 Entrepreneurial Woman of the Future award.
The Oxford Climate Forum will be attended by students who have demonstrated leadership in a wide range of backgrounds, including student politics, environmental activism and entrepreneurship.
There is no need for delegates to have specific environmental experience. Rather, the team is looking for students who have demonstrated leadership in the past and will be able to bring about a positive impact as a result of attending the forum. There is no participation fee for attending, and applications are open until Wednesday 3rd February.
