29 Feb 08 (Friday Week 7) At The Kassam Stadium Complex

EAS Members: £55 Dining; £35 Non-Dining

Both an enlightening exhibition and an enchanting ball, this is a unique cultural extravaganza endorsed by the China British Business Council and China Now, as one of the foci of the UK-wide promotion of Chinese culture. Having already been mentioned on BBC radio, the event will be further documented. And for the first time, Oxford students will be able to enjoy an experience as grand as any college balls, but at less than half the price.

Through re-enacting the breathtaking journey of the Silk Road, the event aims to challenge cultural stereotypes by cultivating a visually stunning impression of the Orient unsung and unknown in the west. There will be a feeling of majestic elegance as the guests immerse in the silky interiors lit with 600 lanterns and state-of-the-art mood lighting.

With a night of flowing free drinks and infinite canapés, your eyes will feast on authentic performances of Shaolin Kungfu, traditional acrobatics and operatic dances, the likes of which have never been seen in the UK before, and sourced directly from China (rather than China towns). You may also relax with a deliciously elaborate private tea tasting ceremony and free your body and soul to Jazz or the music of international star Tim Westwood.

Mysterious and exotic wonders will be revealed throughout the evening, the only thing you can be certain is to be constantly surprised as the night rhythmically flows on with carefully architected sequences. In the words of Marco Polo, we have only described half of what you will see, and your imagination is the limit.
