The Scandinavian Society aims to support and develop Scandinavian culture and interests at the University of Oxford. By Scandinavia we mean the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. We apologise to people who find this confusing (Scandinavia should be used to mean only the Scandinavian peninsula, i.e. Norway and Sweden). However, even if not correct, it is today a common convention to use Scandinavia to mean all Nordic countries (though, sometimes without Iceland). The society will offer our members a good social network of people connected to or interested in Scandinavia in one way or another. We hope to arrange interesting talks and presentations as well as dinners, pub-nights and parties. We also make an effort to celebrate traditional Scandinavian festivals.
