Week 4: Join the OxWiP Committee!

E-mail sent by Ania, Thursday, 1st November 2012 @ 4:09pm

Hello all,

This week, I am very happy to be sending out an annual email, which announces some very exciting news: the time for OxWiP Committee applications is approaching!

Applications for a number of positions, including President, are open.

This is your chance to make a difference to this rapidly-growing society, and help define its future direction. OxWiP is an organisation committed to its goal of promoting leadership among young women, and inspiring them to succeed in any field. Our high-quality events serve to address these issues.

Read on for a list of the positions available, including individual profiles outlining each position's responsibilities and workload. You will also be able to contact current Committee members if you have any questions.

To apply: send your CV and a short letter stating your motivation to president@oxwip.org. The Deadline is Tuesday 20th November (7th Week). Committee voting will take place soon after, and successful applicants will be notified within a week of this date.

All positions are open to both undergrads and postgrads (apart from 'VP for Undergrads', for obvious reasons). Once elected, each position lasts for a full year (so not just one term, like in some societies). Remember, even if you decide not to apply for Committee, we are always looking for College Reps.

The OxWiP Committee looks forward to receiving your applications!

All the Best,
Ania Dulnik
OxWiP President, 2012

Politics and Tea: Dr. Masooda Bano, Sunday 26 February

E-mail sent by Hannah Roberts, Friday, 17th February 2012 @ 10:31am

Did you ever wish that you add a nice break to your Sunday afternoons: involving tea (or coffee!), biscuits, and good conversation about a genuinely interesting topic?

Well, now you can do just this, by coming to OxWiP’s ’Politics and Tea’ meeting!

The idea behind our new ‘Politics and Tea’ event series is a biweekly meeting at teatime on Sundays, free and open to all, during which students will get to hear a female academic speak about her work and answer any of their questions in an informal setting.

We are pleased to announce that our first speaker will be Dr. Masooda Bano, who is affiliated both at Wolfson College, Oxford, and the School of Oriental and Asian Studies (SOAS) in London. Dr. Bano’s work focuses on the emergence of female Islamic movements in the Muslim world since the 1970s, and the nature of demands they are making, a topic which evidently remains highly relevant to current events.

Come and join us in our launch of this exciting new series of events (tbc in Trinity Term) at the MacGregor Room in Oriel College on Sunday of 7th Week (the 26th of February) !
