This email is to say that there's no way I can continue being president and music co of Oxford Rev and leading all the songs this term. So it's a request for people to step forward and fill those roles.
Ideally, the president and music coordinator should be different people, and as large a variety of people as possible should teach and lead songs. None of the roles are particularly time-consuming or demanding in themselves (although doing all of them at once certainly is!).
The jobs involve:
President - making sure the committee is doing what they are supposed to be; organising committee meetings; generally being someone the outside world can contact about the choir; sending emails.
Music coordinator - organising the music side of the choir - how much time each song has in rehearsals, what songs will be performed in concerts, etc. In particular, the music co should organise people to teach and lead songs (not necessarily the same people). Finding people to arrange or accompany songs would also be good, but not essential.
Teaching/Leading songs - teaching involves singing something at people and getting them to sing it back. Easy. Leading a song involves vaguely waving your arms in time and giving some sort of indication as to what verse comes next (silly signs work, as does mouthing the first words).
If anyone is interested in leading a song we already know, I'm happy to give you pointers and/or music for them. Also, lyrics are available at http://rev.org.uk/oxford/lyrics/
Also, Anna Bowen (the social secretary) and Michelle Hutchinson (the treasurer) are leaving this year.
If you fancy doing the job of social secretary (bringing biscuits and organising the odd social), speak to me or Anna Bowen (@st-hildas.ox.ac.uk).
If you fancy doing the job of treasurer (writing cheques and telling the president and social secretary whether we can afford to spend money), speak to me or Michelle Hutchinson (@exeter.ox.ac.uk).
None of the jobs are particularly taxing - Rev is quite a laid-back choir, and the work is spread out between several roles. So even if you've never thought of doing something like this before, think about it now. You can help the choir you love, and get something impressive on your CV for very little effort.
I hope you all had/are having a great Christmas holiday.
Alex
