Salut,
8th week is finally here, the nights are getting longer, an Easter full of the last of lent, followed by crass commercialisation on a theme of new birth is just around the corner (but bunnies and chicks can be quite cute…).
TONIGHT Tuesday the 10th of March we'll be meeting for the LAST rev before Easter and to be honest almost certainly the last rev of this academic year, due to finals and other commitments. There may be one or two special events (singing in the park, busking and whatnot) next term, but we will not be meeting regularly. Next year another team is hoping to relaunch Rev in Oxford, as the national organisation is going from strength to strength. After the rehearsal we will probably go for a drink or two, if you’d like to join in…

The rehearsal will be in Exeter College Chapel. If you're not sure how to get to Exeter, go to Cornmarket (the big main shopping street) and go down the little road next to Boots the Chemist, follow the road left into TURL STREET, Exeter is now on your right, go through the large Oak door (it'll be shut but not locked) into the quad, turn left and the chapel is the massive chapel looking building in front of you.
Bestest wishes,
Simon.

Greetings Singers,
It's 7th week, meaning that you're either starting to wind down looking forward to Easter, or, more likely, the whirlwind of deadlines and tests is whipping around you. Either way, I hope you find lots to do, because THERE IS NO REV THIS WEEK.
In just over 7 days, on Tuesday the 10th of March we'll be meeting for the LAST rev before Easter. We'll have something special planned and we'll be going for drinks afterwards, so I encourage you to make a date in your diary…

Dear Rev List Member,
Just a briefly quick note to remind you NOT to go to Rev this week, because it’s not on!
We’re meeting every other week, with Sixth (24th Feb) and Eighth (10th Mar) being the remaining two rehearsals for this term.
In other news, WiM (Week in March - Rev's annual week away together at Easter ish) is fast approaching – some Oxford people are heading up for a fun-filled trip away, so if you’re interested in joining them, get in touch ASAP.
Until next time…

Hello,
Strongly resisting any ‘fourth’ related puns, in this, the 4th week of Hillary…
As it’s an even week, that means THERE WILL BE a Revelation Rock Gospel Choir get together/rehearsal thing on TUESDAY at 7.30pm in Exeter College Chapel.
This week sees the return of most of the other members of the committee, so a more musical and structured experience is guaranteed.
Hope to see as many of you as possible – we’re half-way through the term (panic!)…

With all the ice and snow you won't want to go outside, so a reminder that THERE IS NO REV this week. Rehearsals are now every other week!
We will be meeting NEXT WEEK, on Tuesday the 10th of February at 7.30pm in Exeter College chapel. The evening holds much fun-filled singing and activities, with the seven days between now and then being spent planning lots of amusing things to do.
If you're not sure how to get there, go to Cornmarket (the big main shopping street) and go down the little road next to Boots the Chemist, follow the road left into TURL STREET, Exeter is now on your right, go through the large Oak door (it'll be shut but not locked) into the quad, turn left and the chapel is the massive chapel looking building in front of you…

Greetings!
Welcome to a slightly delayed but all the better for it 2nd week message.
The first Rev get together (rehearsal sounds very formal) of 2009 will be on TUESDAY the 27th of January at 7.30pm in EXETER COLLEGE CHAPEL. Exeter's Chapel has one of the best acoustics in Oxford, if not the whole UK and we're lucky to get it.
If you're not sure how to get there, go to Cornmarket (the big main shopping street) and go down the little road next to Boots the Chemist, follow the road left into TURL STREET, Exeter is now on your right, go through the large Oak door (it'll be shut but not locked) into the quad, turn left and the chapel is the massive chapel looking building in front of you…
Tomorrow we have a gentle introduction planned, with some warm-up games, a few simple song and of course plenty of good times - anyone interested in teaching or leading a song is welcome to come and give something a go.
We'll be back in Exeter Chapel every other week from now until the end of term, which is TUESDAYS of 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th, ie: 27th January, 10th February, 24th February, 10th March.
REMEMBER Rev is about the joy of singing together; we don't audition and we don't mind if you can't stay for the whole thing, or if you arrive late…
Hope to see you soon!
Simon.

Hey!
Hi and welcome to a new year and a new venture for Oxford Rev – Biweekly meetings!
Yes, for this term Oxford’s most inclusive and friendliest choir is experimenting with having a rehearsal EVERY OTHER Tuesday night. So that you can get settled in, the first get together will be NEXT Tuesday at 7.30pm – this also means we can have a party in eighth week.
Awesome.
The venue is a city centre Chapel, moments from Cornmarket, so should be easier to find with much better acoustics – look out for another message soon with the exact details for the rest of term.
Also coming up we have the week away during Easter Vac with the jolly national Rev people, LCGC tour and many other amusing things.
Anyone who’d like to be involved in the running of the Choir, we’ll be looking to hold elections before the end of the year, so if you’re interested in what any of the jobs involve (president, treasurer, secretary etc.), start chatting to the current members and finding out.
That is all – do hope term is going swimmingly,
Simon.

Greetings,
Almost as soon as it has begun, we find ourselves at the end of term… Because we decided not to do a concert this term, we’ve instead chosen this week for a splendid Christmas PARTY!
So, One and All are invited, including friends who’ve never visited the choir before, in fact anyone who’s known to someone in some way. We’ll be partying-down on TUESDAY in the Liddell Buildings of Corpus Christi (no 60 Iffley Road), where we have a room and grand piano etc. all booked for our use. It’s a short walk from Hilda’s and behind a code-controlled gate, so we’ll meet at Hildas for 7.30pm as normal, but then at about 7.40 we’ll leave to go to Corpus. If you can’t make that time, call 07788665426 when you’re outside the gates of 60 Iffley Road and we'll let you into the building.
Be prepared for fun. Bring food and drink as you’d like to have – I’ll bring some cups so people can bring wine or fruit juice. We will be ordering pizza, so if you want some, bring money. Singing wise we’ll be mostly messing about, but plan to have Christmas Carols and all-time favorite sing-alongs too – there’ll be opportunities to request.
This is our last event before Christmas so we do hope you can make it.
Wrap up warm and see you tomorrow!
Simon.

If you've not been to Hilda's before, then once you're through the gates, in front-left of you is a two-storey building with some stained glass windows on the ground floor (it's in there, surprisingly…). Go in through the wooden door, first left, then first left again.
Hope to see you then – everyone’s welcome!

Dear Revver,
The evenings are drawing in and there’s less than a month until Christmas, but, more importantly, there’s only three Revelation Gospel Choir meetings left this term!
Next one is tomorrow, Tuesday the 18th of November, at 7.30 in St Hilda’s college chapel.
If you've not been to Hilda's before, then once you're through the gates, in front-left of you is a two-storey building with some stained glass windows on the ground floor (it's in there, surprisingly…). Go in through the wooden door, first left, then first left again.
Just in case it's not crystal clear, all are welcome, whether you've been before or not, can sing, or not. Goodness knows that sometimes we can't…
We’ll hear tell back from the Weekend away, sing, have fun and do our best to finish the term’s supply of sweets and biscuits before 8th week…
Just keep singing, singing singing (etc.)…

As with all of this term, we’re meeting on TUESDAY at 7.30pm at ST HILDA’S CHAPEL. Because of our visitors, we are definitely then going on out to a nearby bar later to get to know our guests some more. It’ll be a great chance to meet some of the people who’ll be at the weekend away:

Welcome to the weekly newsletter from Oxford’s most enjoyable* choir!
Revelation Rock Gospel Choir, the fun, laid-back non-auditioning choir will be holding it’s third rehearsal of the year on Tuesday night at ST HILDAS CHAPEL at 7.30pm. We'll finish by 9.30pm and usually a smaller group will continue on to one of the University's many bars… Recently we've been running through traditional gospel fare as well as more modern compositions (if you call crowded house modern).
If you've not been to Hilda's before, then once you're through the gates opposite you is a two-storey building with some stained glass windows on the ground floor (it's in there, surprisingly…). Go in through the wooden door, first left, then first left again.

Good Morning!
And welcome to the first, and probably going to be the latest, Rev News e-mail of 2008!
THE FIRST MEETING/rehearsal of the year is TONIGHT, Tuesday 14th October, at EXETER COLLEGE CHAPEL. We’ll aim to start at about 7.30 and run till 9.30, with a break in the middle for water, sweets and if you’re lucky some cake. After, there’s probably a trip to a bar somewhere. Exeter Chapel is through the door on Turl Street (unsigned large oak door, will be closed but unlocked, needs a hefty push), into the quad, turn left and the chapel is obviously straight in front of you.
NEW TO REV? Don't know what to expect? Well, it's always tricky to write about yourself, but Rev is part of a national group of Gospel Choirs (www. rev.org.uk) who are formed for the enjoyment of singing, with the specific aim of being inclusive and welcoming to people of all singing abilities. Our members are majority student, but there are several recent grads and a few proper grown-ups too. The 'Rehearsals' will generally consist of gathering together chatting, some warmup activities, learning/singing songs, a break for Haribo maybe with some rhythm games then some more singing before we finish. You are welcome to come late and/or leave early if you'd like.
NATIONAL EVENT IN OXFORD! Existing members will know that representatives of all of the choirs meet together each term to discuss choiry things and this term's meeting is in Oxford! On Saturday! If you want to be made aware of social trips or activities we're planning with the national reps this weekend (likely to be trip to park, maybe a meal, maybe drinks/clubbing), then write to me and I'll keep you informed. Via the E-mail.
Why was this message so late? Well, we kinda lost the sign-up sheets from Fresher's Fair - sob - but then we found them again - joy - so all is now well. My unending thanks to Dave, Kate and James who stayed up until the early hours of this morning deciphering handwriting and typing in addresses…
Hope to see you tonight!
Much love,
Simon.

Hello and welcome to Week -1,
Rev is back (almost)!
As anyone who’s got anything to do with the university will know, we’re all semi-chaotically preparing for the start of term – you can help out if you like (see below) – so it’s a miracle that this e-mail is getting sent at all.
This year’s first rehearsal will be two weeks from today in first week, so the evening of the 14th of October. Aside from being a full moon, it also promises lots of fun and games and happiness, as well as a fair amount of singing. The venue will be a city-centre college, more next week…
Would YOU like to help with FRESHER’S FAIR?! Rev has a stall at Oxford University Freshers Fair and we’re near-desperate for people to help man (or woman) it. You'd collect names, generally have fun soaking up the atmosphere. Even if you’re not a current member, if you’ve got some spare time we’d REALLY appreciate it if you could help us out (if you'd like to work is a specific pair that's fine, just say). The whole fair is Wednesday 8 October, Thursday 9 October and Friday 10 October and we’d ideally organise it so people do a whole morning or whole afternoon at a time (it’s running 9am – 4pm), but anything you can would be amazing.
Please write to me if you’re even vaguely interested:
simon.mortimore@exeter.ox.ac.uk
Otherwise, we’re always looking for new people to get involved in the committee so if you’ve got any ideas or you’d like to help out, do write and say hi, or say hello at a rehersal.
Hope everyone’s summers were splendid.
Peace,
Simon.

Hello!
Something different for you this week:
Rev in the Park!
============
The FINAL rev rehearsal of 2007/08 will be taking place IN UNIVERSITY PARKS at 7.30pm tomorrow, Tuesday the 10th of June. If somehow the weather is horrid, we’ll be in Exeter Chapel, but the forecast is generally great. Let’s meet near the Keble Gate (opposite Keble College) and I suspect we’ll then move on to sit under the trees somewhere, but you should be able to find us! Note, we’ll bring sweets and biscuits, but PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN DRINKS/WATER!
Party in the Park!
=============
Sometime during the rehearsal, probably about 8.30pm, we’ll relax some more (!) and start to have a party, with fun party games and activities. If you feel like it, please bring party-supplies; whatever you’d like! Although a Rev party is likely to be mostly about cakes and sweets, you’re welcome to bring wine/drink of your choice to enjoy on the summer evening if you like; I’ll bring some cups. The parks close at 9.30pm at which point we’ll probably head to Corpus.
T-Shirts!
======
Would you like a lovely green Oxford-Rev T-shirt? As seen here:
http://photos-g.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v39/209/69/36801284/n36801284_31188294_7094.jpg
If so, there are just four left (3 Large, 1 Medium) available for £5 each, on a first-come first-served basis. Write back to me if you want one stating which size. They can be pidged to you or collected at Rehearsal (but pre-arrange please).
CDs!
====
Not too long ago, Oxford Rev made a CD containing 16 tracks of marvellous Revvy-fun including many of the songs we sing now. We have a big box of these left so we’re selling them for the bargain price of £3 each. They come in a proper album box with full colour cover and inlay and used to be sold for a lot more money. Again, these can be pidged to you or bought at Rehearsal; write back to me if you’re interested.
Summer!
=======
Warwick Piazza weekend is the 20th to 23rd of June and you need to organise going NOW if you’ve not already.
Edinburgh RESiTS run during the festival in August from the 15th for a week. Mail me or look on the websites for more info.
Finally!
=====
If we don’t see you tomorrow, have a wonderful summer and we look forward to catching you next year. For the few who’ll be leaving Oxford for the big wide world, fare well and do stay in touch/come back to visit.
Peace.
Simon.

Look here for more info: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=13430837678 and let me know if you’re going, please :o) It’s all free (except food and drink) and promises to be LOTS of fun.

Does term seem to be lasting forever?
Or do you wonder how you’ll get everything done in the scant remaining time?
Whichever it is, take a break and de-stress by coming along to Rev, tomorrow (Tuesday), at 7.30pm in Exeter College chapel.
As always, new members are welcome at any point so it’s not too late to join in!
As for events, well, there’s the Warwick concert and weekend away on 21st and 22nd June and there’s Edinburgh RESiTS 19th-26th August.
In 7th or 8th week we may well put on a Concert (to be decided) and there'll certainly be a busking/punting/picnicing trip, probably on a Saturday, so watch this space!
That is all for now!

Good day,
Herin lie details of the next Oxford Revelation Rock Gospel Choir rehearsal/get together, which is, tomorrow, Tuesday the 13th of May at 7.30pm in Exeter College chapel. Last week saw the joy of new faces, the pain of the concentration needed for of the clappy-tappy cup game and the comedy of my trying to sing soprano… So, you should come along, because it’s fun…
In an amazingly skilled feat, the website detailing Warwick’s Piazza concert manages to completely fail to mention the dates, despite referring to whether to arrive on Saturday or Friday night… I will endeavour to find out more (if you know (David, hint hint) please let me know). EDINBURGH rev are holding their RESiTS event from the 19th -26th August, so if you fancy a week in Edinburgh at festival time, singing and making new friends, then start planning and figuring now.
Finally, there are some CDs and T-SHIRTS left over to buy from previous years – if you’re interesting in getting some of these, then send me a message, or come and say hi on Tuesdays.
I’m off to generally be too hot and long to be outside,
Yours hurriedly,
Simon

This week’s news is:
It’s sunny; brilliant!
(Although to those of us with work/finals, this is a little bittersweet… )
There is not much other news. You already know that we’re meeting for more mirth and beautiful songs TONIGHT at 7.30pm at Exeter College Chapel, so that’s not really worthy of a news message. As always, everyone is welcome to the rehearsal and you needn’t stay for the whole thing.
Oooh, actually, I should tell you about an event by Warwick Rev called the piazza concert on Warwick campus, which is coming up and should be lots of fun – Oxford has made many Warwick friends and we’re well received when we visit. Looking further, in the summer is coming 'Revelation in Edinburgh Singing in The Sun', or RESITS – held in Edinburgh at festival time it’s a crazy holiday which I know a few of us are going up too, so you may want to think about coming too (see http://www.edrev.co.uk/resits/ ).
I shall let you get on now…

Welcome to 2nd week - if you weren't around last week you missed some great new songs, as well as the chance to catch up everyone you'd not seen all Easter. Thursday night saw a highly successful visit to Warwick Rev; we made even more friends there – it was an awesome trip and really good to take part in other Revs. We’ve invited some of the Warwickers to come along to see us later in the term and we may still return to them…
Anyway; our next rehearsal is TUESDAY at 7.30pm in Exeter College chapel.
As always, everyone is welcome regardless of singing experience, skill, time commitments, faith – the choir is all about having fun and singing together.
'tis all for now,

So much so, that I forgot to send the ‘news’ e-mail yesterday.
So here it is today.

REHERSAL TONIGHT! 7.30! EXETER CHAPEL!
Well, we say ‘rehearsal’ but really it’s a fun, creative time together singing and learning songs, rather than a formal rehearsing something. If you’ve never been before, now is your chance to come along - but if you can’t make it, newcomers are still welcome every week. We'll be at Exeter Chapel every Tuesday evening for the rest of this term.
That is all.
Simon.

Dear Oxford Rev'ers and interested e-mail list'ers,
Warwick Rev, which is a large, exciting and vibrant choir, have their first rehearsal of term on Thursday April 24th at 5-7pm [to all of you not paying attention and just scanning this message, the OXFORD rehersal is on Tuesday, we're talking here about WARWICK, on Thursday the 24th]. This is obviously Thursday of Oxford Week One, so Alex is planning a bit of a trip to pay them a visit, say hi to one or two friends and generally see how they do things.
IF YOU'RE INTERESTED in going, please contact Alex directly on:
alexander.merry@ccc.ox.ac.uk
He's going to organise times and cars/transport etc.
Standby for another news message early next week, detailing some of the exciting things we, Oxford Rev, have lined up for next term. As a heads up, first rehersal is next Tuesday at 7.30pm.
To those with collections; Good Luck!
To everyone; have a great weekend!
Yours presidentially,
Si.

Hello,
Soon Hilary Term 2008 (AD) will be gone forever, but before it breathes it's last, there’s just time for one more Rev!
As it’s the last week of term, we’re doing something a bit different:
Meet on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Chapel at Exeter College, as normal, for an hour of the choir rehearsals we love so much, then, at 8.30pm, we will leave and go for a group meal (almost certainly at the Noodle bar depends a bit on numbers). After that, there may well be drinks or G&Ds to end the night, SO, REMEMBER to bring a little money for food. No need to pre-book, just make sure you’re at the Chapel before we leave.
In other news, we’ve just had confirmed that the rehearsals next term will also be in Exeter Chapel. MANY THANKS to the Exeter student who booked that up for us :o)
Hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow, otherwise have a wonderful Easter vacation and look forward to seeing you next term!
Si.

Salutations,
A simple message this week – the Rev-Rocks choir ‘rehearsal’ is at the same place, same time as it has been for the whole of this term; that is, Exeter College Chapel, 7.30pm on Tuesday. As always, newcomers are welcome, as are those who’ve only been once or twice…
Standby for exciting news of an end-of-term social - the exact details are being confirmed but you’ll hear the plans later this week!
Hope to see you tomorrow.
Yours Revelatoryly,
Simon.

Good morrow friends,
Well, the weekend past saw a fantastic performance by the Choir at a concert for the Turl Street Arts Festival. Feedback we’re received has been positive and apparently “it looked like you were having a lot more fun than the other choirs”. Super.
This week’s rehearsal is in the same place, same time as normal, namely 7.30pm in Exeter College Chapel.
We’ve received a message from Warwick Rev, IF YOU’RE INTERESTED get back to ME ASAP:
<Warwick Rev>
We’ve got tickets to go and see Les Miserables at the West End on Saturday 1st March! It'd be £42 per head, including your ticket in and coach travel to and from the theatre. It's a damn good price for what it is, as tickets usually retail for £55 per head anyway.
</Warwick Rev>
We’ve also received a message from a BBC TV Producer who’s making a programme called ‘Choir Wars’ which “can be described as Strictly Come Dancing meets X Factor“ I’m thinking we're all a little too busy for any of that shenanigans, but if you think otherwise, raise it at rehearsal…
'tis all for now.
Simon.

Hello!
This is a message to remind/encourage people coming to SING in our concert TODAY (Saturday the 16th of February). We will be singing as one part of a four-choir show for the Turl Street Arts Festival, to be performed in Exeter College Chapel. The concert is 4.30pm-6.00ish, in two halves, and we’re meeting in Exeter beforehand AT 3.30pm (meet at chapel and then move elsewhere to go over the songs). Thanks to those who’ve already said they can come and if you’d like to, just turn up then. If you're coming along, please try to wear BLACK(or v dark) TROUSERS/SKIRT and a brightly coloured t-shirt.
The ‘concert’ will be rather small, probably just three songs we know well, so it’s really not scary and should be fun. We’ll all be doing something social afterwards, probably a trip to Pizzahut or ‘other’ (to be debated on the day).
Hope to see you there!
Yours sleepily,
Simon.

Lo,
We find ourselves in fifth week and I encourage you to break away from the fifth week blues by coming to the fantastically fun filled Rev rehearsal residing in Exeter College Chapel, tonight (Tuesday 12th), from 7.30 onwards. Last week’s pancakes were a great success; this week we will most likely be returning to the Exeter bar, where good times will be had and a wide choice of drinks are available, including many soft drinks if you like (which most of us do)…
Concert
======
On Saturday the 16th of February – ie 4 days time – we’ll be participating in the Turl Street Arts Festival where we plan to sing just a handful of pieces in a concert featuring three other student(ish) choirs. The concert starts at 4.30 and should be all over by about 6 at the latest. After this, I there are plans afoot for Rev to go on to PizzaHut or similar. It’s short notice I know, but make it if you can! Performers and friends of performers are all welcome to come for food.

Hello and Welcome!
The Oxford branch of Revelation Rock Gospel Choirs is meeting again tomorrow, Tuesday the 5th, in Exeter College chapel, at 7.30pm, for singing-fun, general merriment and pancakes (well almost, see below). This week also sees the welcome return of skilled musical types (Emily et al) to guide us in key areas.
We will not be attending Exeter Bar afterwards, partly because there’s a tasteful Karaoke competition there this week, but mainly because there is other post-rev fun planned, as Dave, our national rep will now reveal…
<dave's bit>
You may have noticed that this weeks rev falls on pancake day! As such, some of
the corpuscles will be hosting a small after-rev pancake party at corpus.
Everyone from rev is welcome to join them. If you could LET US KNOW YOU'RE COMING (david.lloyd@ccc.ox.ac.uk) that would be brilliant, but feel free to turn
up on the night even if you haven't!
In other news, WEEK IN MARCH is coming up fast:
WIM!!! is set to be great this year! for those who don't know, every
year rev choirs from across the country spend a week together doing what we do
best and lots of other stuff besides. This years it’s 22nd-30th March and is hosted in Leeds.
There will be lots of new people to meet, and lots of new songs to learn with a
big concert at the end of the week.
And all this for £55!!

3rd Week News
=============
Week three is upon us already, which of course doesn't only mean being neck-high in research for your latest essay, much more important than that, it means that once again it's time for Rev!
As for all of this term, we'll be meeting in Exeter College Chapel at 7.30pm on Tuesday night, for around 90 minutes of fun and frolics, with a break in the middle for sweets and biscuits. Afterwards, an intrepid band will venture into the depths of Exeter bar - where Tuesdays is cocktail night.
So-far this term we've seen new faces at each rehearsal, which is great, so I'd like to emphasise that the choir is non-auditioning (ie: we don't judge your singing) and exists purely as a way to unwind and have fun, so if you've not managed to come along so far this year, you're still very welcome!
This week sees a number of different leaders guiding us on our way, so may be even less formal than usual(!). If you've got an idea you'd like to try out then come prepared to join in, otherwise prepare for variety.
That's all from me [Si], so I bid you goodbye. But, see below for…

Revelation’s 15th Birthday!!! (We will be 15 this spring/summer. Amazing! Does this deserve a celebration? Where? When? What should it include? What would be the maximum price people would be willing to pay eg for meal + entertainment? Would you like to be part of/lead a party organisation team? - media, sales, decoration, entertainment, research…Ask your choir all these questions, and also ask for a show of hands as to who would want to come, because we need lots of opinions, numbers and ideas brought to this bit of forum please!)

Welcome to our second week email to remind you about another Rev-tastic gospel choir 'rehearsal', tonight, at 7.30pm in the acoustically fabulous Exeter College Chapel.
This week sees the start of handing over the reins to the new committee, who are full of bright ideas for new songs, from Veggietales through to Aretha Franklin. If you missed the elections last week don't worry, we're still happy to accommodate anyone who'd like to get more involved (by joining the committee, teaching a song, conducting or doing a warm-up) just come and say hello.
So don't let the cold dark evenings get you down - come and enjoy some soulful singing! We'll probably be heading down the college bar afterwards, where you are more than welcome to come and have a drink and a chat.
Finally, lyrics for many of the songs should be online at http://www.oxrev.org.uk. Also, we're part of a national organisation that you can find at http://www.rev.org.uk, who are running the Week in March getaway…
Happy harmonies,
Simon

Come and brighten up your winter blues with Rev!
7.30pm at Exeter College Chapel.
Also, don't forget that elections for President and Music Co are today (and we'll be looking for people to teach and/or lead songs). And any other positions people stand for.
Also, WiM is approaching. This is "Week in March", which is actually in March this year (it isn't usually). It's a week away for all the Revelation Rock-Gospel Choirs in the country (about 14 of them). It's also immense fun - I even went in my first year without knowing anyone else who was going, and had a great time.
There are various jobs on offer - bond group leader and envionment secretary are easy to do, even if it's your first WiM.
WiM is the 22nd to the 30th March, and more info can be found at http://www.rev.org.uk or on the Facebook event at http://oxford.facebook.com/event.php?eid=5915928881
More info on WiM tonight.

Just to let you know that I plan to hold elections for any positions that people have shown an interest in during the first rehearsal of term (a week on Tuesday). I'll be standing down from my roles in the choir as of the end of the rehearsal (although I'll still be around if the people taking over have questions or whatever).
That means that I won't be leading rehearsals after first week (although I might be convinced to still lead one or two songs) and may not even make it every week. So if you want rev to carry on, you need to volunteer to either take up the position of music co or president, or to teach and/or lead a song.
Plus don't forget that the positions of treasurer and social secretary are also up for grabs.
And there are WiM jobs (which will be during the easter vacation and so won't interfere with term time commitments at all), but more on that in first week.
And rehearsals will be in Exeter College Chapel this term - so don't go turning up to Corpus. The Music Room in Corpus is now a heap of rubble…
Alex
E-mail newsletter sent by Alex Merry, Thursday 3rd January @ 11:52am
This email is to say that there's no way I can continue being president and music co of Oxford Rev and leading all the songs this term. So it's a request for people to step forward and fill those roles.
Ideally, the president and music coordinator should be different people, and as large a variety of people as possible should teach and lead songs. None of the roles are particularly time-consuming or demanding in themselves (although doing all of them at once certainly is!).
The jobs involve:
President - making sure the committee is doing what they are supposed to be; organising committee meetings; generally being someone the outside world can contact about the choir; sending emails.
Music coordinator - organising the music side of the choir - how much time each song has in rehearsals, what songs will be performed in concerts, etc. In particular, the music co should organise people to teach and lead songs (not necessarily the same people). Finding people to arrange or accompany songs would also be good, but not essential.
Teaching/Leading songs - teaching involves singing something at people and getting them to sing it back. Easy. Leading a song involves vaguely waving your arms in time and giving some sort of indication as to what verse comes next (silly signs work, as does mouthing the first words).
If anyone is interested in leading a song we already know, I'm happy to give you pointers and/or music for them. Also, lyrics are available at http://rev.org.uk/oxford/lyrics/
Also, Anna Bowen (the social secretary) and Michelle Hutchinson (the treasurer) are leaving this year.
If you fancy doing the job of social secretary (bringing biscuits and organising the odd social), speak to me or Anna Bowen (@st-hildas.ox.ac.uk).
If you fancy doing the job of treasurer (writing cheques and telling the president and social secretary whether we can afford to spend money), speak to me or Michelle Hutchinson (@exeter.ox.ac.uk).
None of the jobs are particularly taxing - Rev is quite a laid-back choir, and the work is spread out between several roles. So even if you've never thought of doing something like this before, think about it now. You can help the choir you love, and get something impressive on your CV for very little effort.
I hope you all had/are having a great Christmas holiday.

Don't forget the concert at 7.30pm tomorrow night, and don't forget to tell me if you want pizza afterwards. Otherwise there may not be enough…
Dress code (for performers :-P): brightly-coloured tops.
Rehearsal starts at 6.15pm, so we can go through the music and we have time for warming up and a break before the concert itself.
The party is a kind of Jacob's Join-type thing - if everyone brings a bit of food (or juice/soft drinks), we'll have loads for everyone! Apart from the pizza - we'll be ordering that, and we'll ask everyone who wants some to make a contribution.
The party moves on to the Beer Cellar at around 9.30pm.
Hope to see loads of you there!

Tonight is our last proper rehearsal before the concert next week. If people could turn up by 7.30pm, it would be really helpful.
Next week is our CONCERT! And end-of-term party. We'll be having a rehearsal at 6.15pm to go over a last few things and to warm up, and then we'll be singing at 7.30pm.
The concert won't be too long, and afterwards we'll have a party. Audience members are welcome to the party, but I need to know if they want pizza. Invite all your friends!
*** If you want pizza, email me! ***
We'll ask for a few quid to cover the cost of the pizza if you are eating it. We'll also have a few other bits and pieces, but it would be good if people could bring along something small - some crisps, or biscuits, or cake, or anything like that. Then we can have a veritable feast!
The dress code is brightly coloured tops. Let's dazzle the audience with our clothes as well as our singing!
Lastly, can you please email me if you:
(a) will be here tonight but not next week or
(b) will be singing in the concert, but will be late for the rehearsal
it would be really useful.
Thanks for ploughing through this email…

We'll be doing a concert in 8th week. The plan is to have it at 7.30pm on Tuesday of 8th week, with a short rehearsal beforehand. This will be a shortish concert followed by a PARTY! There will be pizza and goodness. It will be fun.
If you want to do something in the concert, such as a solo/duet/small group song or a drama or dance piece, let me know and we'll make sure you have a slot. It would be great to have some things like this.
Don't forget the film night on Friday.
We have a new warm-up co-ordinator, Emily Barritt. Email her @ccc.ox.ac.uk if you are happy to do a warm-up at the beginning of a rehearsal. It's a great way to get a feel for what it's like standing in front of the choir if you're unsure about whether you want to conduct a song or not.
If you want to get involved in any other way (teaching or conducting songs, singing solos, organisational stuff) just let me know.
Finally, lyrics for many of the songs should be online at http://www.oxrev.org.uk. I'll try to get the rest of the songs we're doing this term up this week.

Hi Everyone,
This term is swiftly drawing to a close and I, being the disorganized person I am, haven't yet arranged a proper social (excluding all the general sociability of every Tuesday of course). So this Friday of 6th (Friday 16th November) I've booked St. Hilda's South JCR (which is essentially a large, comfy living room) for a Film Night!
It'll start at 8pm, and the choice of film is entirely up to you. Alex (El Presidente) has a host of great DVDs including:
All the Monty Python's
Airplane I and II
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Princess Bride
Fight Club
Laputa: the Flying Island (anime style film like Spirited Away)
If any of these appeal then come along, or if there's something you're desperate to watch, and you have a copy (or you think Videosyncratic or Blockbusters on Cowley Road are likely to have a copy) then bring it along with you!
(DVDs only though I'm afraid. The VCR in South doesn't work)
Ok, so:
Date: Friday of 6th (16th November 2007)
Time: 8pm
Place: St. Hilda's South JCR
Bring: Any DVDs you would like to watch, and your good selves! (Bad selves also permitted, but only if they behave whilst watching the film)
Oh, and popcorn and exciting nibbles will be provided, courtesy of your lovely Social Sec…me!
Hope to see you all there!
Anna xxx
p.s: Detailed directions to St. Hilda's South JCR:
Once you get into St. Hilda's, follow the path that goes left, past all the bikes, past the dining-hall windows (the dining-hall is a delightful shade of pink, you can't really miss it) then in the next door on your left, through into the pale carpeted hallway, and turn right, walk past all the notice boards (but not as far as the stairs) then go left, and you'll be in the JCR!
St. Hilda's is pretty well signposted, but if you get completely lost, ask the Porters, who are very friendly…unless you're a boy…in which case you might be better off keeping a low profile :)

Welcome back old members, and welcome new members! This is the mailing list for Oxford Revelation Rock-Gospel Choir.
If you're not quite sure what we are, we're a non-auditioning gospel choir. We sing a mixture of gospel and rock (and, well, anything else we like - suggestions and arrangements always welcome!). You don't need to be able to read music, as everything is taught by ear (someone sings it to you, and you repeat - couldn't be easier). We don't mind how well or badly you (think you can) sing: the point is to have fun and make friends.
For more information, check out our website at http://www.oxrev.org.uk and our ClickUni site (also good for changing your subscription to this email list) at http://rev.ox.clickuni.com. We're part of a national organisation that you can find at http://www.rev.org.uk.
With that out of the way, onto this term. We have a rehearsal on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the NMR at Corpus Christi College (there will be signs pointing the way). Come along, and bring all your friends! If you can't make it this week, feel free to rock up later in the term. Oh, and drinks and biscuits provided!
Much revvy love,
Alex
PS: we'll have some socials later in the term, details to follow. As if rehearsals weren't social enough :-P
