Hello lovely HUMsters
This is a reminder that the final aarti of the term will be held this Wednesday, 6.30pm at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies!
This is the last event of the 2013-2014 HUMsoc year so do come along!
Your HUMsoc Committee 2014
The end of Trinity Term is drawing near and we are delighted to announce that HUMsoc has a new constitution which will come into force from the beginning of next term. Please find it attached to this mail out.
We also have a few end of term notices including the final Majlis meet and greet of the year - not one to miss!
Lots of HUMlove and have a wonderful summer vacation!
Hello HUMsoc members,
On behalf of the HUMsoc Committee 2014, I would like to invite all HUMsoc members to a General Meeting of the Society to be held next Wednesday at 7.30pm at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies. The meeting will conclude by 8.30pm approximately and will directly follow aarti (which begins at 6.30pm) so please do come along for the aarti beforehand.
The location of OCHS is as shown on the map below:
This General Meeting has been called to invite members to review the new, proposed constitution for HUMsoc (a copy of which is attached to this email for your prior perusal). In order to avoid paper wastage, we will have a limited number of hard copies of the constitution at the General Meeting so I recommend that you look through the constitution beforehand and download it to your phones etc. The proposed changes to the HUMsoc constitution are the result of a new university-wide policy. The Chairman of the Clubs Committee of the University of Oxford has asked that all registered clubs and societies adopt the standard constitution format by the end of this term.
The General Meeting will be your opportunity as members of the Society to suggest amendments to the draft HUMsoc constitution and a vote will be taken at the end of the meeting to approve the new constitution before it is submitted to the University Proctors' Office. Please note that only those present in person at the meeting will be able to vote.
Thank you and I look forward to welcoming you to the General Meeting next Wednesday, 7.30pm at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies.
HUMsoc Secretary 2014
We have reached the official mid-point of Trinity and it's been a fantastic term so far!
Aarti has remained a regular weekly fixture in the HUMsoc events calendar and OxHoli on Saturday of 3rd week welcomed 2, 000 people to play Holi!
For many of you, we know exams are drawing closer however we would like to invite you to continue joining us for aarti on Wednesdays. Last week, we welcomed back members from the 2008-2009 committee and had a fantastic aarti session. Come along to experience aarti for yourselves and meet members of this year's HUMsoc committee.
This week, there are also notices from the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and an exciting promotional discount being offered to HUMsoc members in partnership with OxGives.
Have a lovely 5th week!
HUMsoc committee 2014
Thank you so much for attending OxHoli 2014 and making the event one of the best HUMsoc Holi's to date! For those of you that were unable to attend, here's what happened...
Yesterday near 2000 people descended on Merton College Sports Ground to play Holi. We sold coloured powder, water guns and water bottles. Needless to say chaos, water fights and paint throwing battles followed. We, as a committee, were proud to watch the transformation of a mass of clean, white-clothed students into a colour-stained army.
We had a great time and hope you did too! We had several photographers capturing the fun of OxHoli and their photos will be uploaded to the facebook event page as soon as possible. Please do keep checking it:
Keep a look out for more upcoming HUM events. Our next big one will be Diwali Ball in Michaelmas 2014!
As always, we will have our weekly aarti this week on Wednesday. As exams draw closer for many, aarti is great mid-week stress buster and a great social as well as religious event in your diaries.
Lots of HUMpyaar!

The week of OxHoli has finally arrived, the sun is shining and your HUMcommittee has been busy finalising all the details of this Saturday's HUGE Holi event!
Ahead of OxHoli, we will hold our weekly aarti on Wednesday at 6.30pm.
We also have notices from Chutney and Chips Productions and Anoushka Mehta who is holding a Bollywood dance workshop.
Have a great week 3 and we look forwarding to celebrating Holi with you this Saturday!
Your 2014 HUMcommittee
We hope you had a lovely first week of term. We are now less than two weeks away from OxHOLI so if you haven't already saved the date in your calendar, do so now!
OxHOLI: Saturday of week 3 from 1pm-3pm on the Merton Playing Fields.
Thank you for a great aarti turnout last week and hopefully see many more of you at aarti this Wednesday: 6.30pm at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies.
We are also have two exciting opportunities to share. A former Oxford student and ex-HUM committee member has written to us on behalf of Connect India, an organisation that works with young British people of Asian descent to connect with their roots. Successful applicants gain the experience of a lifetime. Learning Journey is aimed at connecting young people with India, by taking individuals through India and seeing it through various lenses.
Secondly, Oxford's Sikh Society have invited all to an audience with the legendary marathon-runner, Fauja Singh, the first centenarian marathon-runner.
More details below, have a great second week!
Hello and welcome back to Oxford after what we hope have been lovely, relaxing and fun Easter breaks for you all!
Trinity term, the term of punting, croquet, some semi-decent weather, and most importantly, the term of OxHOLI has arrived!
The date of OxHOLI has changed to Saturday of Week 3 so please save the date. This year it promises to be bigger and better than ever before with over 2000 people already attending! Scroll down for more details.
We are resuming our weekly aarti tonight at 6.30pm. Last term we had a great turnout, and we hope to continue to see as many of you there as well as some new faces.
The university's philosophy faculty is also running a 4 week course on Indian philosophy this term. This is a new programme that has already generated a lot of interest among students and is well worth attending if you have some time!
Further details of all three events are below!
Have a wonderful first week HUMsters and get excited about OxHOLI!
We're excited to announce that in addition to our last aarti of the term, HUMsoc and Sikhsoc are joining forces to have a joint meal tonight, Wednesday of Week 8, at Pizza Express located in the grounds of the Oxford Castle.
