**HUM** Michaelmas Week 8

E-mail sent by Member 205e1d1, Sunday, 26th November 2017 @ 4:34pm

Hello Humfolk!

It's finally here! Can you believe we have already reached week 8? We hope all the freshers have enjoyed their first term at Oxford, but now it is almost time for a well earned break. There isn't too much going on this week, though we do have an important message from our friends at OIS regarding their ongoing elections, so check below for details on that.

I'd like to remind you that we are currently accepting applications for 2018 HumSoc committee positions. It really is an amazing team to be part of, and it feels very rewarding when you manage to raise money for charity whilst providing great events for the Asian community at Oxford. Hence I strongly recommend that you all apply. Link for applications:
Please note: The original deadline for applications was Monday 27th, but we were having some problems with the Google Form system, so we have had to extend the deadline to 10th December (we'll announce new committee during vac).

Lastly, since we are nearing the end of the current committee's tenure, this is likely to be my last weekly mailout, so I'd like to say thanks for being part of this community. You really have made all our events special by attending them and have helped create a lot of memories. From Oxholi, to Bollywood movie nights, to the recent Diwali Ball, these are all experiences I will never forget, so I and the rest of the committee want to thank you all for being a part of it. Enjoy the last week of term guys, as well as your Xmas break. Make sure you come along to OIS' Bollywood BOP to see the term out in style :)

Lots of Humpyaar,
     - Milan

P.S. After writing these for weeks, I have only just realised that in every email this term, I have written "join us for the first weekly aarti of the year". My copy and pasting has been exposed, but hopefully none of you noticed it anyway ;)

**HUM** Michaelmas Week 7

E-mail sent by Member 205e1d1, Tuesday, 21st November 2017 @ 10:06pm

Howdy HUMily,

Thank you so so much to everyone who came to Diwali Ball and helped make it such a great night. We managed to raise a ton of money for CARE India, and hopefully you all had as much fun as we did!

If you'd like to be part of the team that organises events like the Diwali Ball and Oxholi, as well as smaller events like Bollywood movie nights and aarthis, then look no further. The Oxford University Hindu Society is accepting applications for 2018 - it has been a genuine pleasure to be part of the Committee, and the Hum family is always looking to grow. Applications will close this MONDAY 27TH NOVEMBER at noon, and we'll announce the new Committee at our final aarti on Wednesday Week 8 at 6pm. The application form can be found here:

Also, after last week's mania, we are co-hosting a more chilled out event with OIPAC, so that you can relax and wind down for the end of term. Check below for details on this event and on the others. Have an excellent week guys, and see you on Wednesday!

Humpyaar x

P.S. If you have any questions about the committee form or about the committee i general, feel free to email me at

**HUM** Michaelmas Week 6 (updated)

E-mail sent by Member 205e1d1, Monday, 13th November 2017 @ 11:19pm

It has been brought to my attention that the joke made in the week 6 email could be taken to be quite insensitive. Just to be clear, it wasn't the intention at all and I hope I didn't offend anyone. It's not right to make light of the experiences of people who have mental illnesses, so I'll make sure I'm more careful with my words in the future.

**HUM** Michaelmas Week 5

E-mail sent by Member 205e1d1, Wednesday, 8th November 2017 @ 11:44am

Hey guys!

I'm really on the ball with these emails aren't I? Okay maybe I'm a little late, but to be fair last night's Oxford Punjabi Events' Bhangra Night was pretty lit, so of course I was going to forget the mailout! Hope you all made it to the event because it was a great night out and I think we can all agree that we're eagerly awaiting the next one! Also, congrats freshers for officially making it past the halfway point of the first term. I'm sure you'll be glad to know that there is no reason to worry and your degree becomes a lot easier from now on (I'm lying). But for real though, coming to uni is a big change and I know that I personally found my first term very difficult, so you should be proud of yourselves. There are the usual notices below (and maybe this time I'll remember to put the correct date). Enjoy the rest of your week guys!

Lots of Humpyaar x

Hey Humfolk!

Thank you to everyone who came to the Pehli Mulakat social, you guys made it a fantastic buzzing event! I don't know about you, but I've never seen so many Asians in one place at Oxford (I mean South Asian of course). You guys proved that the Oxford South Asian community is indeed alive and existent, so please keep bringing friends to future events so we can make them as fun as possible! We'll do our part in bringing the food ;)

On a similar note, tickets are still available for the Diwali Ball, so make sure you grab yours at
If you are unable to buy tickets online, then don't worry, we'll be running a spot sale for physical tickets soon (Date/location TBC). As usual, there are details on weekly events below.

Have a great week guys!

**HUM** Michaelmas Week 1

E-mail sent by Member 205e1d1, Tuesday, 10th October 2017 @ 11:28pm

Hiya HUMfolk,

Boy do I have a lot to get through in this email! (I'm doing a maths degree, so this really is a lot of writing for me, okay?) A warm welcome to all freshers and new HUMsters, it was lovely to see some of you at the Freshers' Fair and we hope to see you all at our upcoming events! To all those returning to the city of dreaming spires, hope you've settled in comfortably. This term promises to be filled with exciting events such as our annual DIWALI BALL and weekly aartis, both of which provide an opportunity to mingle with your fellow HUMsters. We also have a few messages from the Hindu Chaplain at Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies (OCHS). Do scroll down for all the details!!! If you have any questions, comments or queries about HUMSoc, please don't hesitate to drop me an email at:

Humpyaar x

P.S- Remember to like our Facebook page to stay in the loop:

P.P.S- This week's email happens to feature a lot of religious events, but for those who are less religious (or not religious at all) and instead simply want to be part of a community of people from a similar background, then fear not! You are just as welcome at this society and we will be holding plenty of non-religious events, which will be coming soon!

P.P.P.S- Sorry for all the post-scripts. I'm pretty sure they are pointless as I could have just put them all in the main text and at this point they may even be taking up the majority of this email. Oh well, they amuse me so I think I'll keep them :)

Hiya Humlings!

This will sadly be the last mailout for this term as the year draws to a close. Looking back on the year, we have enjoyed a fantastic diwali ball, bollywood movie nights, Oxholi 2017, and numerous aartis and enjoyable dinners together. It truly has been an amazing year, and we hope to make sure next year is even better with loads more events! (Please let us know if you have any suggestions; any queries about the society may be sent to me at those graduating, we wish you all the best of luck with your future endevours and hope that HUM will be a part of the wonderful memories you leave Oxford with.

We are still running our weekly aartis this week on Wednesday at 6:00 pm, so do come along. We will also be running the aarti on the following Wednesday (week 8) at the same time. Make sure you don't miss these last two HumSoc events for this academic year! If you have exams, we wish you the best of luck! See you next year!

Lots of Humpyaar,
     -The Humittee  :)

PS- How great was that India vs Pakistan match?! Hopefully the Champions Trophy doesn't distract us too much from revision!

Hey HUMigos,

We have reached the official mid-point of Trinity and it's been a fantastic term so far! Now we just have to finish the home stretch! Hopefully, you guys haven't spent all your time holed away in libraries revising for exams and have been able to enjoy the pleasant weather at least a little. Remember it's important to take study breaks and to socialise, otherwise you might feel burned out! So make sure you come along to our weekly aarti to take a break and destress a little. Also this week we have the Rahat Fateh Ali Khan concert, which should be amazing!

Good luck to all who are taking exams. Have a lovely week!
