My name is Raam Chauhan  On the 26th June 2010 (Saturday of 9th Week) I am doing the Three Peak Challenge, which means I’ll have just 24 hours (including travelling time) to climb the three highest mountains in the UK, which are Ben Nevis (in Scotland, 1344m), Scafell Pike (in England, 978m) and Snowdon (in Wales, 1085m).

I am raising money for the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies (OCHS), a recognised Independent Centre of the University of Oxford. They are one of the only places in the world where you can get a degree in Hinduism outside of India, and they are working to preserve our culture and religion for generations to come.

Not only that, but they are one of the foremost non-sectarian, non-political Hindu authorities in the world.   But on a much more personal note we all know them for hosting our aarti every week. They have also taken on the responsibility of being the official Hindu Chaplains for the University, which means that as well as representing us on several boards and committees they are also there for our personal welfare.   Although they are associated with the University of Oxford they receive very little funding and are in desperate need of more support.

The amount of work they do is incredible and I really believe that they deserve our support.   I’m doing the challenge with a friend and we are looking to raise £1000 each. So far I have got nearly £600 and I really want to reach my target before the date, which is only 12 days away!

I appreciate that we are all students so I’m not asking for loads, but please pass on this message to your parents as well and try to convey the importance of the OCHS to HUM.   So even if it’s only small, please donate what you can by going to my Just Giving page

Thank you

Raam
