CHUTNEY AND CHIPS 2011
Chutney and Chips is Oxford's FIRST multi-cultural show...music, dances, beautiful costumes and a unique storyline crossing cultures. Cambridge, LSE, KCL and UCL already have them, and it is time to show everyone what Oxford has to offer!
Our bid to the Oxford Playhouse was successful, but now the hard part starts: actually putting the show on stage. Whether as an actor, dancer or as part of the many teams behind the scenes, we need YOU to get involved.
For those of you wanting to audition for parts, here is a brief synopsis of the play:
Chutney and Chips is essentially a modern Western take on a proverbial Bollywood love story. The production tells the tale of a simple and honest girl from London, who is constantly battling a desire to break free from the confines of her prescriptive lifestyle, whilst simultaneously trying to stay respectful to her deep-rooted cultural beliefs. At the same time, we learn about the story of an outgoing and charismatic boy studying at Oxford, eager to make the most of his degree and university life, but under pressure by his parents to find a wife.
At its very heart, the play sends out a message about the struggle posed to British-born ethnic individuals in maintaining the duality of cultures. However, ultimately, it is a celebration of the symbiosis of cultures and therefore it is a play for everyone. As a result, we welcome ANYONE that would like to audition and this is reflected in our diverse cast list.
Please look at the attachment for a breakdown of character profiles - see bottom of the email.
First auditions dates and times (these are the last set of first auditions, so please ensure that you can make them if you would like to have a chance of acting in the show):
Thursday 3rd February: 6.30pm-8.30pm
Saturday 5th February: 12pm-2pm
Second auditions dates and times:
Saturday 5th February: 4pm-6pm
Sunday 6th February: 12pm-2pm
Venue: New College- Lecture room 6
Please email Nikita Thakrar at firstname.lastname@example.org and state which day you wish to attend. We will e-mail you back with further information on the audition format.
