Lots and lots of HUMpyaar xxx
Hope eveyone has had a smashing Diwali weekend filled with dancing, sweets and lots of light. If you want to make it an even better celebration of this amazing festival, buy your DIWALI BALL ticket now!! There's a spot sale today: 2:30 to 4:30 at the Starbuck's on Cornmarket Street #bethereorbesquare.
Hope the fresher's flu has worn off and everyone's gotten into work mode (unfortunately, I haven't been lucky in either respect). BUT, on the brighter side, there's a lot of stuff to do this week. And ALSO, DIWALI BALL #HUMtherapy. Get your tickets asap, they seem to be running out quicker than we expected!
Now and forever (cheesy sign off),
This isn't your weekly email so don't worry - Aditya will be sending you all updates tomorrow! But I just wanted to let you know the times of our spot sales for Diwali Ball tickets this week, so you can plan your week around them!

ALL spot sales will be taking place in Starbucks on Cornmarket, as per usual!

Hope everyone has had a crackin fresher's week and hopefully not-so-bad 1st week; congratulations to all of you guys who've just matriculated woohoo #YOMO. Also, you guys really made us happy with the turnout at last week's Meet 'n' Greet! There is a lot more coming up in the next few weeks (reminder: keep your Diwali weekend Friday i.e. 1st November free if you want to see Sunandaji talk on the 'power of thought'!!) and obviously, a massive shout-out for Diwali Ball!!!! Buy your tickets now #youknowyouwantto.
Come get your tickets from us in Starbucks on Cornmarket between 2 and 4pm! (Cash or cheque accepted).
Apologies for yet another email but this is all quite important!
Firstly, I'd just like to remind you that our Meet & Greet will be held tonight between 8 and 10pm in the Doctorow Hall at St Edmund Hall. For those of you who have not seen the Facebook update, there has been a room change, but there will be signs up to direct you. Please do come along for a chilled back evening with free food and drinks, where you'll have the chance to mingle with other people interested in HUM, and meet the committee too!
Moving on to tickets...
We will be selling Diwali Ball tickets at the Meet & Greet tonight (£40 for members - with your membership card - and £45 for non-members) and there are a few ways you can pay:
You can either pay in cash (and try to bring the correct amount if you can), or you can hand us a cheque made payable to 'Oxford University Hindu Society', with your full name and college written on the back.
(You can also purchase your lifetime HUM membership at the Meet & Greet for only £10!)
If you are unable to attend the Meet & Greet, there are other ways you can buy your tickets too:
- We will be holding spot sales in town over the coming weeks, details of which will be made known to you.
- You can pidge a cheque to Rajan Shah at St Hugh's College (again with your full name and college written on the back, so we can pidge a ticket to you).
- If you would like to do a bank transfer, please email 'firstname.lastname@example.org' with the number of tickets you'd like, your full name and college, with the subject "Bank Transfer", and then you will receive a reply with the details you'll need to make the transfer.
- You can make an online card payment on our website: www.oxfordhumsoc.com, but please note that there will be a card handling fee added to the ticket cost, and a postage fee if you would like your ticket to be sent to a non-college address. You will not be able to purchase discounted tickets online so please email the aforementioned address if you are a HUM member.
I know that was a lot of information to take in, (don't worry - you've made it to the end of the email!) but we've only tried to make it easier for you by giving you as many options as possible, so that you are comfortable with your form of ticket payment. I look forward to meeting lots of you tonight! See you soon! :)
Firstly, a BIG welcome to all you new additions to the HUM family! Obviously, an equally big welcome back to all the HUM veterans #oldisgold. For those of you who haven’t already met me at (re)fresher’s fair, I’m Aditya and you will be receiving weekly updates from me throughout this term! We are off to a busy start this Michaelmas, so I’ll get straight to it.
See you soon,
Tomorrow (October 11th) is refresher's fair (yay)! While celebrating the year older we have all grown (lol), here's another reason to celebrate - DIWALI BALL TICKETS! We will be selling tickets tomorrow at the HUMSoc stall - its GBP 40 for members and GBP 45 for non-members. Also, if you're feeling the HUMlove, you can also get our life-long membership for GBP 10, which is definitely worth it!
PS: For anyone buying tickets tomorrow, they will be pidged to you by the end of 1st week - so leave your details with us tomorrow!
See you tomorrow,
Hope this summer has been amazing for everyone with enough time to get away from work and relax! That said, I'm sure you're all happy to be back, Oxford is really easy to miss. Anyway, theres a lot coming up this term and in the next few days #refreshersweek. So make sure you dont miss out on all the fun stuff!!!
It's been a while! I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer vacation and I can imagine you'd be starting to prepare for yet another Michaelmas term, which is slowly creeping upon us. But fear not, for it will be an exciting term ahead (particularly on the HUM side of things)! Aditya, from whom you have been receiving lovely #hashtag filled emails this year, will be in touch nearer to 0th week to officially welcome you all back and update you on all things HUM!
Anyway, as you are all probably aware, the infamous Diwali Ball is set to take place this Michaelmas, (as a heads up - 16th November - so keep the date free!) and there will be a number of acts on show during the night. One of these acts, as you may expect, will be an Oxford student Bollywood dance, and we have a few generous students who are willing to choreograph. So currently, we are looking for students to take part in the dance!
If you are interested in performing as part of the Bollywood dance act at the Diwali Ball, and will be able to commit to regular rehearsals from the start of term, (and have made sure you have no other commitments on the DB date), please hit reply on this email and let me know! Even if you are unsure (for other reasons) but would like to be involved, feel free to still get in touch and we can go from there!
I look forward to hearing from lots of enthusiastic dancers, and I hope you all manage to relax and enjoy what's left of the vacation! Ciao for now!
As we all know, the academic year is coming to an end. Many of you guys won't be with us next year and so we think having an end of year meal on this Wednesday (12th June) after aarti will be a good way to meet everyone and say the byes properly. The meal is open to anyone who would like to come: if you've come to aarti frequently or attended any of our events or just want to get to know us better, please do come! It would mean a lot to us. So the logistics:
when: 8 pm - tomorrow (Wednesday the 12th) after aarti
where: Pizza hut (tentative) - let me know if you guys would want to go somewhere else
It is important that you RSVP asap because we need to book a table soon! We are expecting a good turnout guys, please do try to come even if just for a bit in the middle.
Last time this term #emosignoff,
Hello HUMmingbirds (feeling very lame today),
Hope you're having a good time working hard for the exams or celebrating if they're done! There's just 2 notices this week, which means more time to revise!! #oxfordmentality. Just to put it out there, Diwali ball 2k13 is coming up in Michaelmas and you do not want to miss our biggest event of the year! Details to follow. Best of luck to everyone who's still hanging in there, you can do it!
Till next week #standard,
Hello again HUMSoc,
At this most apt hour to send out emails, I must inform you of two important changes in the email I sent out earlier today:
1. The IPL final screening on Sunday is in the St. John's TV room, not the DVD room! In the likely event you get lost in John's (speaking from experience), you will hopefully remember this. We're expecting a great turnout by the way #nopressure
2. After feedback from some people, we agree that it will be better to shift the END OF YEAR MEAL to Wednesday of 8th week, by which time most of you will be done with exams and will hopefully, be free to come and make it a success! Details will follow but keep yourselves free.
Revision calling but as always,
Sorry again for this dry spell of no HUM emails and no hashtags .... but anyway, hope you're having a good middle of term. Hopefully better than I have with all this work #RIPtimemanagement. Congratulations to all the finalists who have already finished their exams and loads of HUMwishes to all those who are still hanging in there, we hope you do amazingly! And of course, best of luck to all the freshers as well! A couple of notices this week - let me get straight into it.
Till next time #phirmilenge,
Hello again HUMlings,
OxHoli 2013 what an amazing turnout; you guys absolutely killed it with the enthusiasm #paintingthetownred! We love you for the brilliant show of spirit and joy that made our event the success that it was. We are sorry about running out of colour, guns and water bottles fairly early but that's only because we didn't expect Holi to be such a massive hit with you guys! Obviously we have a lot to thank: the weather, all the people who helped us out with the sales and of course everyone who came #gladyoucame
And ending with that cheesy hashtag,
Hope you guys haven't missed this email too much this past week. I'm sorry I haven't gotten the chance to send it out earlier this week, but its only because we have been so busy organizing what we know will be the craziest holi party in the UK #Oxholi2k13. There's other important things waiting to be said, so moving on swiftly ....
PS: YOU DONT WANT TO MISS OXHOLI #longstoryshort
Sorry for this but I missed out an important part of the introductory email:

See you next week,
Welcome back HUMpeeps,
Hope everyone has had an amazing break (and unlike mine, hopefully filled with lots of revision). We are back with another term of an amazing line-up of events for you and of course, the sunshine is finally here #thankyousun. So let me jump straight into it,
Till next time,
