Job Descriptions
******Jacari Committee Job Descriptions 2008*****
The Jacari committee will work as a team to promote Jacari, organise events, raise funds, and act as a vital source ideas and inspiration in the development of the charity. The committee will work closely with the full-time coordinator, who will oversee the day-to-day running of the charity, and so committee members will have more time to get the most out of their specific roles, coming up with innovative ideas and putting them into practice. Typically committee members will be required to commit to around 4 hours a week of role-related work, as well as a weekly committee meeting. They will also commit to an hour a week spent helping in the office, although this may not be necessary during less busy times of the year. Experience in a specific role is not essential – most important of all is enthusiasm and dedication.
******Events Coordinator*********
The main responsibilities of the Events Coordinator are organising at least one volunteers' social and one children's social per term and ensuring these run smoothly, with the help of the rest of the committee. This may require some extra time commitment leading up to events, typically a few hours in the week beforehand. It is obviously necessary to attend all Jacari events and also work with the publicity officer and Brookes rep to put on events at both universities. The role requires good organisational and planning skills to meet deadlines and budget limitations, as well as pragmatism, creativity and a sense of humour!
******Finance Manager******
As financial officer, one of your main tasks will be to update the accounts each week with the various incomes and expenditures. You will manage the cheque books, reimbursing people for Jacari-related expenses, and you will be expected to pay in cheques, e.g. from donations. At the beginning of each term, you'll be expected to submit the previous term's accounts to the clubs' committee. During each vac, you'll also have to draw up an expenditure forecast for the coming term to submit to the trustees. You will also be responsible for fundraising, devising new sources of income and building on past relationships. The financial officer should not only establish fresh ways of attracting funding, but also be able to take responsibility for that funding to ensure that our accounting systems are as accurate as our donors expect them to be. No specific skills or previous experience truly necessary, other than a high level of motivation for Jacari.
*******Teaching Committee*******
There are usually two members of the teaching committee, responsible for keeping the Jacari library up-to-date in order to supply volunteers with books, games, worksheets and other useful lesson materials. This also includes adding to the teaching section of the website. The Teaching Committee respond to volunteers' queries about the practical side of Jacari, as well as running weekly teaching workshops on topics such as planning, using materials, behaviour, the curriculum, project work etc. A great deal of autonomy and ingenuity is possible in this role as the teaching committee are the main providers of advice and training for volunteers. Being part of the teaching committee is essentially a creative role which puts you at the heart of Jacari's aims, and is consequently greatly rewarding.
*******College Reps**********
College reps are a fantastic way for students to find out more about becoming a Jacari volunteer, and they're also a great support base for those students who are already volunteers. Reps are responsible for distributing information about Jacari, but can develop their role in many ways e.g. applying on behalf of Jacari for JCR funding, and holding events for the Jacari volunteers in their college.
