E-mail: [Oxford Hub] LEAVING SOON?; LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES
|
Dear Oxford Hub member, If you're leaving soon then congratulations! As you set off into the world, looking for opportunities to make a difference where you can, we'd like to invite you to become an Oxford Hub alumnus and both keep in touch with the charities you were involved with at Oxford as well as stay up to date with a whole host of networking, events and career opportunities… See more below. We think you'll find the 4 emails a year worth it, so to join please send an email to manager@oxhub.org with your new contact email as well as details of which charities, if any, you've been involved with at Oxford. In other news, there aren't many events coming up this week, but there are tons of internships and opportunities to go on courses over the summer. Also, Refugee Week in 9th looks set to have an excellent line-up of events, including expecially the speaker event next Monday at the Town Hall. Finally, the application deadline for Oxford Hub:U8 committee positions advertised last week has been extended until Friday 8th because I gave you the wrong email address. Applications should be sent to u8@oxfordhub.org not u8@oxfordhub.com Have a great 8th week and good luck to all those with exams! Adam |

3. Student Hubs: JUST CAREERS CO-ORDINATOR INTERNSHIPFULL INFO: Just-Careers Internship.pdf Internship title: Just Careers Co-ordinator Location: Student Hubs office, Cowley Road, Oxford Key Contact: Adam O’Boyle, adam.oboyle@studenthubs.org Start: June - Flexible Working hours: 3 days per week fulltime (23.5 hours), ideally 8 weeks Salary: £150 per week Closing date for applications: 11th June 2008 Please send a CV and short covering letter setting out why you wish to apply for this role and what skills you will bring to this position to Will Horwitz at will.horwitz@studenthubs.org. Purpose of placement:
To lead development of Student Hubs’ provision of Just Careers advice for students and graduates. It’s time for a culture shift in graduate careers: 1) A socially-just career will no longer be ‘alternative’. Graduates will make sure their career, whatever it is, is socially just: a Just Career. 2) People will easily be able to access information to inform their decision to pursue a Just Career. We believe that a Just Career: - Is not a ‘sector’, it’s an aspiration.
- Is not necessarily an alternative to a lucrative career
- Is up to the individual – what does ‘just’ mean to you?
We will be the first generation for whom social and environmental considerations will be pervasive – whatever you do, you will engage with the world around you. Working with careers advisors, national organisations and students, you will begin the process of bringing this change about. |

8. Platform2 - free 10 week life changing experience overseasAre you – or do you know anyone – 18-25 years old? If so, take a look at www.myplatform2.com as you or they may be eligible for a free government funded life changing experience in a developing country such as Ghana, South Africa, India or Peru. This is a fantastic one off opportunity aimed at those who would not otherwise be able to afford a gap year experience.
The trips are 10 weeks long, with a 1 week in-country orientation and then 9 weeks at the project. A three day residential follows return to the UK where we will help volunteers make sense of their experience and act on it through telling their story in creative ways in the UK to raise development awareness.
Typical projects include constructing community buildings, caring for and teaching children, building infrastructure at eco centres, and assisting in HIV clinics. The important thing is that they involve living among a local community, getting an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to that community, and then coming back inspired to tell your story back in the UK.
A few places are still available for July and August departures. An immediate application might secure a July placement. Otherwise, please make sure you apply by 20 June in order to secure an August placement. |
