Dear OE member,

Welcome to the 7th week newsletter! The Varsity Pitch on Monday was a huge success - thank you to all of you who came and we hope you had a great evening! The Oxford winners were Matoke Matoke who went away with £2500 and the Cambridge team Touchsight will go on to Monaco to pursue further funding. Thank you for all your support and helping to make Idea Idol and The Varsity Pitch such a success. There was great press coverage for the event including ITV News, Financial Times and CNN!

However, we’re not going to slow down, the OE committee is hard at work preparing events for next term and we still have many exciting events and opportunities coming up over the next few weeks so please read on..

  • NEWSFLASH: IDEA IDOL FINALISTS ANNOUNCED *

Oxford Entrepreneurs is proud to announce the 8 finalists for Idea Idol, which takes place this evening from 6pm at the Said Business School and features THEO PAPHITIS from BBC’s Dragons Den. Come and support the contestants as they battle it out to be crowned Idea Idols and edge closer to the £10,000 prize fund and trip to Monaco!

Here are the “lucky” eight who will be pitching tomorrow:

  • Camerge (Bartu Ahiska, Queens College): An algorithm that uses modern CCD/CMOS cameras to their full potential, both cheap camera-phones and high-end professional cameras, adding significant value.

  • ConChord (Weiheng Liao, Balliol College): By creating musical instruments with internet connectivity and a variety of online music services he will enable people to play music together at all times in all locations, worldwide.

  • Designthetime.com: (Thomas Whitfield, Christ Church College): A consumer media venture designed for people to watch and share TIME through a unique web experience.

  • Ebay meets Cannes: (Vijoy Gopalakrishnan, MBA, Said Business School): Through a web-based market place he plans to enable independent film producers from around the world to trade with international distributors (cinema houses, conventional distributors, video rental chains, Internet-TV outlets).

  • Keycard: (Chitemwa Ng’ambi, Balliol College): KeyCard is a pre-paid banking product (similar to a pre-paid phone card) that gives customers access to ATMs and merchants on the Visa© network, without the need for a bank account or credit rating.

  • Matoke: (Jessica Mather-Hillon, Somerville College): The civil war in Northern Uganda is one of Africa's longest conflicts. Matoke Matoke is a fair trade company which will sell embroidered napkins made by women displaced by this war.

  • mRadio: (Steven Niederer, St. Johns College): mRadio will develop new software to enable radio station to connect with their listeners through the internet, email and cell phones. Radio stations will be able to offer an increased range of products and services to their listeners, providing new and potentially extensive revenue streams.

  • Virtual Trust: (Atif Ansar, OUCE): VirtualTrust is an internet-utility and inter-mediator for trading companies around the world. We make the market of cross-border trade in goods/services more efficient by increasing level of Trust between transacting parties.
