Mostly, we are or have been members of Oxford University who dance the English Cotswold Morris. Occasionally we also dance the North Skelton longsword and some Border Morris.
Having our roots in the revival sides of the turn of the 20th Century we endevour to keep alive most, if not all the Cotswold Morris Traditions, as interpreted by the side. (In this context, a tradition is a style or set of of dances associated with a particular locality, e.g. Bledington, Gloucestershire, U.K.) We are also a touring side and use the title 'The Ancient Men' when dancing in far flung and exotic places. With the exception of one year, there has been at least one tour of the Ancient Men since 1952, each one lasting about 7 days. In most years there have been 2 or more tours.
May Morning is the one day in the year you can be sure of seeing OUMM dancing in the streets of Oxford.
We always welcome new dancers and musicians and although we still use the title OUMM, we are not exclusively an all male group.
