News and Announcements

Thursday 24th November

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Monday, 21st November 2011 @ 5:47pm

Greetings all,

Send me your names for badminton this Thursday, and bear in mind that this week the session will start at 8.30 not at 8.00. This is due to the time being given to the volleyball and judo clubs in return for them having given the squad an extra half hour previously.

Thanks everyone,
Isobel

Cancelled session

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Monday, 14th November 2011 @ 11:33am

Greetings all,

May I remind you that there is no badminton session this Thursday November 17th. And no, this isn't just a ploy to keep the numbers down...
I should also add that one of our four badminton nets was found to be missing yesterday. If you were playing in the Sports Centre on Saturday (there was a squad session, no?) and you have any idea where it might have got to I would really appreciate you letting me know.
Ah, and if you would like to become a member but have yet to pay then feel free to pidge me the money (£20) at Caton Harrison, Isobel; Hertford College. Make sure you write your name legibly. If you were a member last year I might not even make you fill out a form...

That's it, see you all soon!
Isobel

Thursday 10th November

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Tuesday, 8th November 2011 @ 1:06pm

Hey guys
Send me your names for the session this Thursday; sorry this is slightly short notice. This might be the last time I need to do this, we shall see in the fullness of time.
See you all soon!
Isobel

P.S. If you ever sent me an e-mail about coming but have decided not to take up badminton this term let me know since I can then recycle your name peg, and not have too many superfluous ones.

Thursday 3rd November

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Tuesday, 1st November 2011 @ 9:18am

Hi
You know the drill.. let me know if you're going to attend badminton on Thursday 3rd November, with an estimate of your experience if you're new. I'm going to have a go at wheedling down the number of pegs to make things less confusing, if that's at all possible.
Hope you all had a great Halloween and got the most out of the bops..either by attending them or by staying away from them!
See you all on Thursday!

Thursday 27th October

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Monday, 24th October 2011 @ 7:26pm

Hello
Once again I'd like the names of all those planning to attend the badminton session this Thursday 27th October, since we've still got some new people coming in. If you are coming for the first time this Thursday an indication of your level of experience would be definately appreciated.
My thanks to Ben for standing in for me on Sunday, and I hope all you freshers are settling in well wherever you are. Badminton is definately a good antidote to work stress, so feel free to come and try it out if you haven't yet.
That's all, I look forward to seeing everyone again on Thursday!

CLUBNIGHT PAYMENTS

E-mail sent by Andrew Maclean, Saturday, 22nd October 2011 @ 12:35pm

Dear Club,

Just a reminder that clubnight for the year is £20. If you have not paid already now is the time to do so!

There are 2 payment methods:

1) CHEQUE: Make it payable to "Oxford University Badminton Club". Please write your name on the back of the cheque so we can keep track of who has paid. You can hand these to Isobel at clubnight or pidge them to me (Andrew Maclean, Jesus College).

2) BANK TRANSFER/ INTERNET BANKING TRANSFER: Transfer to the account

sort code: 40-35-34
Account number: 52852853

It is ESSENTIAL that you put your name in the reference so we can tell who the payment is from.

It would be easier if you did not pay with CASH. If you do please make sure Isobel know who it is from.

Treasurer

Same routine

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Monday, 17th October 2011 @ 4:56pm

Hello all,
I'm operating the same system as last week where the Thursday session is concerned. So, once again, if you are planning to attend the session on Thursday 20th October please let me know as soon as possible, and if you are coming for the first time please give me an indication of your badminton experience.
This method kept things running smoothly last week and made sure that everyone got enough time to play, and I would like to make sure that this will be the case as often as possible.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Best wishes, and see you all around,
Isobel Caton Harrison

Session this Thursday

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Monday, 10th October 2011 @ 6:09pm

Hello,

My apologies for cluttering your inboxes with e-mails.
Since just over sixty people have now signed up for the clubnight session this Thursday I would strongly dissuade anyone further from doing so; sixty is approximately the largest number of pegs that the board can hold and still be workable. (I operate a peg-board system at the sessions to decide who goes on which court. If that sounds mysterious then all shall soon be revealed!).
If you didn't get a chance to play this time then don't worry, there will be lots of other opportunities.
Next Thursday I will give preference to those new members who couldn't be accomodated this time.
Thank you everyone for your patience at this busy time of year.

Mens Trials - ONLY FOR THOSE WHO COULD NOT COME YESTERDAY

E-mail sent by Tim Barendt, Sunday, 9th October 2011 @ 3:03pm

Dear all,

Following the last minute change in time of the mens trials yesterday we have decided that it is only fair to allow all those that did not get the message in time or could not attend to be allowed to come to another mens trials. These will take place tomorrow (monday week 1) at 8:30pm at Magdalen College School (OX4 1DZ), on Cowley Place, just off Magdalen roundabout and near to St Hildas college. The captains and I stress though that these trials are ONLY for those that did not attend yesterday, sorry but please do not come again if you did not make the squad. Any questions please do e-mail me. Best wishes,

Tim
(OUBaC president)

SESSION THIS THURSDAY

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Sunday, 9th October 2011 @ 12:17pm

Hi
First of all, a big welcome to our new badminton club members this year! For those who don't know, I'm the clubnight representative, responsible for organising the weekly clubnight sessions down at Iffley Road.

Since we have a lot of new names following freshers' fair, I expect the next few sessions might be somewhat busy, especially on Thursday. So, in order to maximize everyone's time on court and ensure that things run relatively smoothly, could you please reply to this e-mail and let me know if you are planning to attend the clubnight session this Thursday, 13th October (8.00pm - 10.30pm). Even if you're not sure but think you might be attending please let me know. If you're a new member, then giving me an estimate of your skill level would also be very useful.

Thank you very much; this should help reduce waiting time for courts.
That's all for now,
Isobel Caton Harrison

IMPORTANT TIME CHANGE FOR MENS TRIALS

E-mail sent by Tim Barendt, Saturday, 8th October 2011 @ 9:53am

Dear all,

I am justv writing to re-iterate the message from the secretary yesterday that MENS TRIALS HAVE MOVED TO 4:30pm TODAY AT IFFLEY ROAD SPORTS CENTRE. This is due to a mistake by sports fed in which the hall was double booked. I am very sorry for the inconvenience. If you do not get this message in time, please dont worry, we plan to hold a second trials at a later date for those that were caught out by the time change. We will e-mail out the details of this soon. Many thanks, and hope to see you this afternoon at 4:30,

Tim

IMPORTANT: Time CHANGED for Men's Trial TOMORROW to 4.30-6.30pm

E-mail sent by Nattapong Paiboonvorachat, Friday, 7th October 2011 @ 6:39pm

Dear all,

We have just been informed by the Sports Federation that they have double-booked the Sports Hall tomorrow (Sat 08 Oct), clashing our session with a Volleyball tournament.  So we have to move the Men's Trial to 4.30-6.30pm instead.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused but this is beyond our control!

Best Wishes,
Nattapong
OUBaC Secretary

Start of term arrangements

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Sunday, 2nd October 2011 @ 12:46pm

Hello and welcome back,

This is a reminder that clubnight sessions officially start again today. I will not be present until Tuesday, however when I do come back I'll leave membership forms out on the court so that those of you who are returning students and know you want to sign up for another year can get that sorted out right away before the freshers make their appearance. Yearly membership costs £20, and I'll collect the fees there and then.

Another fascinating pice of news for you is that from now on members who are in the skill category "advanced" or in the squad will have their pegs marked with red stickers, not orange ones. There's an excellent logistical reason for this - red stickers are easier to find in the shops.

Finally I'd like to add that from the beginning of 1st week sessions might well run a bit slower than usual depending on how many freshers we get wanting to try out the club, so just bear with me there. Any help on offer would of course be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone,
Isobel CH

Beginning of Term Arrangements

E-mail sent by Tim Barendt, Friday, 30th September 2011 @ 5:08pm

Dear all,

I just thought I would clear up the bit of confusion about court time at the start of term. MT begins this Sunday (0th week) and so there will be NO badminton session tomorrow for the squad. We are then into 0th week and so out of the vacation timetable and into the MT one shown on the website (http://www.oubac.com/sessions.php). So there will be a clubnight session this sunday from 3:30 till 5pm. The only changes to the normal session schedule coming up will be trials at the end of 0th week meaning that the clubnight session on Sunday (of 1st) will be CANCELLED (as will the squad session on the Saturday). Any other questions, please do e-mail me. All the best,

Tim

Clubnight

E-mail sent by Tim Barendt, Sunday, 25th September 2011 @ 7:11pm

Dear all,

I just wanted to make an apology to all those that turned up hoping to play badminton yesterday. I missed an e-mail from Sports Fed saying that it had been cancelled, so my fault there, Im very sorry. But, we do have sessions this Tuesday morning and Thursday evening 9-10:30. Then normal service will be resumed as Isobel put in her e-mail. Any questions, just check the website www.oubac.com or send me or Isobel an e-mail.

Best wishes,

Tim

Clubnight session timings for Michaelmas term

E-mail sent by Isobel Caton Harrison, Sunday, 18th September 2011 @ 3:53pm

Hello everyone,

I hope you've all had a great summer; no doubt you're eager to get playing again! I can now confirm the timings of the badminton clubnight sessions for Michaelmas term 2011, starting from Sunday 2nd October. They are:

Tuesday: 10.00 am - 1.00 pm
Thursday: 8.00 pm - 10.30 pm
Sunday: 3.30 pm - 5.00 pm

These timings are little different to those given on the OUBaC website, which are out of date but will soon be fixed. Currently the only exceptions to the above times are on Sunday 9th October when squad try-outs are taking place so there will be no clubnight session on that day.

That's all for now; I'll get in touch again nearer the start of term. I look forward to seeing you all and taking up my shouting responsibilities again!
