The Oxford Millennium Orchestra was founded in 1999 by Benjamin Wolf. Nick Mumby took what little was left of the orchestra as Principal Conductor in 2000. Throughout the following years under Nick’s baton (and credit card), the orchestra continuously expanded in size, ambition and acclaim, moving from chamber-sized concerts in Exeter College Chapel to full symphonic repertoire in the Sheldonian Theatre.
OMO has toured in Europe every year since 2002, most recently this summer with a hugely successful tour to Slovenia, where it made an appearance on Slovene national television. Partly as a result of its tours, OMO has always prided itself on fostering a strongly sociable atmosphere within its ranks. The orchestra’s members are students and staff of the University, and willing members of the Oxford community.
Having done all the hard work, Nick left Oxford in 2005, handing over the baton to Charlie Wilson, under whose direction the orchestra has continued to plough its unique furrow in the Oxford musical landscape.
