Oxford Development Abroad is a student run charity that works to harness the energy, enthusiasm and resources of the Oxford student body to assist with small-scale, community-initiated development projects in the developing world.
Our main work takes place in communities in the developing world. Currently we have projects in Nepal, Uganda, India and Morocco, and we have previously also worked in Guatemala and Senegal. However, we also do a lot of work in Oxford, from training and fundraising, to raising awareness, promoting understanding and fostering discussion of development issues in the local student and resident community.
We are currently recruiting volunteers for Summer 2010 projects, please visit our website to find out more. (www.odauk.org)

ODA is currently recruiting volunteers to go on development projects to Nepal and Uganda. We are looking for 15 volunteers for Nepal and 12 for the Ugandan projects. Both projects are 6 weeks long and are local community-initiated development projects. Previous projects in Nepal have involved the construction of community centres, roofing a primary school and building smokeless stoves. The Ugandan project involves constructing a water tank, protecting a water source, building smokeless stoves and helping teach about water and sanitation.

A benefit event for Oxford Development Abroad featuring the Magdalen Swing Band,
The Five Corners, and The Dixieland Six
You know its time to reward yourself with an evening of New York style jazz.
Seduce yourself in Manhattans long twisting blues and bebop with a martini
on one hand. Dance to the tempo and tenor of that glitzy derriere- and
avant-garde music, all for charity.
29 May (Friday week 5), 8 pm
University Club, 11 Mansfield Road
Only £5 -- Please pidge cheques or cash made payable to Oxford Development
Abroad to Frances Narvaez at St. Anne's College :)
All proceeds will go to Oxford Development Abroad for the building and
maintenance of smokeless stoves to relieve indoor air pollution in Tamil Nadu,
Southern India. Indoor air pollution is one of the top five causes of death in
developing countries and a smokeless stove can reduce pollution levels by up
to 80%. For every 3 of you that buy a £5 ticket, we can purchase the building
materials for another family's stove.

Apply online: www.odauk.org
Deadline: Friday 5th week
More info: oda@herald.ox.ac.uk
Applications for two positions on the ODA committee have been opened. We are currently recruiting for a events/promotions position and also a website coordinator.
Website co-ordinator requires no former experience in IT or profound understanding of technical equipment. It would however, look great on any CV application for the future. Being website co-ordinator for ODA basically involves updating the website and improving it over the course of the year. We currently have a satisfactory webpage but wish to further it as a medium for promotion and awareness for ODA and its causes.
Head of Promotions for ODA involves organising exciting events and promotion talks throughout the year on development and related ODA activities. As it is imperative that we boost recruitment numbers for project volunteers this year it is essential that those who apply are hard working, enthusiastic and determined. The position is great fun, but requires dedication. Work starts most fundamentally in first week with the Freshers Fair and continues throughout the year to advertise ODA and heighten international development awareness amongst students.
