MT Week 5

E-mail sent by a GroupSpaces user, Tuesday, 8th November 2016 @ 7:36pm

Dear all,

I hope you are all having a good week! I just wanted to remind everyone that we are having TWO normal meetings this week, one on Friday and one on Sunday, both in the Saskatchewan Room in Exeter College from 8PM to 11PM. This is to catch up on our regular series that we are showing as we missed our normal meeting in 3rd week due to the projector malfunctioning.

Best wishes,
Felix

MT Week 4/5

E-mail sent by a GroupSpaces user, Saturday, 5th November 2016 @ 10:05am

Dear all,

Thanks everyone for being at the meeting last night! Thankfully the projector is working again now, so we don't have to become an ice cream club sandwich.

So to recap:

-This week we watched the third episodes of the series we are watching.

-Tom has booked the Saskatchewan Room for this Sunday and the next.

-This Sunday (the 6th), we will have a film night in the Saskatchewan Room, starting at 8PM. We will be watching Millennium Actress, which is an award-winning 2001 film from the visionary director Satoshi Kon, a reflective, part-comic exploration of the life of a fictional actress, and in some ways a love letter to cinema itself. We will also watch a few miscellaneous items before the film to make the evening more rounded.

-We will meet as normal next Friday to watch the fourth episodes of each series, and then on Sunday 13th we will have an extra session from 8PM to 11PM to watch the fifth episodes of each series and thus ketchup on our schedule.

For those who are interested, the random episode last night was the first episode of Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Best wishes,

Felix

Week 4

E-mail sent by Member 205eff5, Thursday, 3rd November 2016 @ 8:59pm

Dear all,

We will be meeting as normal tomorrow at 8 PM in the Saskatchewan Room. All being well, we will watch the episodes we would have watched last week. We're hoping that the projector has been sorted out (if it hasn't, we'll just have to carry on being an ice cream club).

We've also booked the room for 8–11 PM next Sunday (6 Nov) and Sunday week (13 Nov), so we should have options for catching up:
as soon as we have any certainty about the projector we will pick one of these for an extra meeting and let you know about it. Sorry if these times don't suit everyone: to an extent we have to take the times when we can get the room. Longer term we're also exploring some backup options beyond Exeter just in case.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Update

E-mail sent by Member 205eff5, Friday, 28th October 2016 @ 10:46pm

As those who came will know, we had to call the meeting tonight off because the projector at Exeter has a filter issue.

1. Sorry! Occasionally these things happen: projectors are fickle beasts.

2. Do not worry about keeping up: we will make sure that we show all of the episodes we would have watched this week the next time we meet, whether that's by using the sixth slots in our meetings, having an extra showing or coming up with some other wheeze. If anyone does miss a meeting that actually happens, you can always ask us to supply you with the material you missed.

3. We don't yet know whether the projector will be working again next Friday. The committee will try to put a backup plan in place in case it isn't, and we will keep you informed so you know where to go next week.

All best,
Daniel
OAV Secretary

MT Week 3

E-mail sent by a GroupSpaces user, Monday, 24th October 2016 @ 9:45pm

Dear all,

Nothing special to report really this week, except that our meeting will be on Friday at 8PM in the Saskatchewan Room in Exeter College, just as last week. We will have someone outside the front of Exeter again up until 8PM to help guide people to the room in case you don’t know/are not sure where it is.

Looking forward to seeing many of you there on Friday, have a great week everyone!

Best wishes,

Felix

MT Week 2

E-mail sent by a GroupSpaces user, Monday, 17th October 2016 @ 5:50pm

Dear all,

I’m very pleased to report that Exeter College have finally sorted out their room bookings for the term, and that every week this term apart from Week 6 (18 November), we’ll have our weekly meetings in the Saskatchewan Room at Exeter College at 8PM on Fridays. Exeter College is in the city centre on Turl Street which just off Broad Street and the High Street, here’s the location on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/dDHkQqX3BbU2. The entrance to the college is the northernmost college door on the east side of Turl Street. We will put someone outside (likely myself) on the evening until 8PM as a sort of sentry to help people find their way in.

A note of courtesy: Exeter are very generous to be letting us use their facilities for free, but they don’t allow any food and drink other than bottled water in the Saskatchewan Room, so please ensure they remain friendly to us by not consuming such articles in the room.

As some of you may have seen already, we are planning a trip to the Vue cinema out near the Kassam Stadium on the evening of 24 November to see the one-off showing of the new Makoto Skinkai film ‘Your Name’. Anyone interested in this should comment on the relevant post on the Facebook group or email oxanimevision@gmail.com this week so we know how many tickets to buy.

I hope to see many of you at the meeting at Exeter this Friday, have a great week everyone!

Best wishes,

Felix

MT Week 1 (First Meeting of the Year!)

E-mail sent by a GroupSpaces user, Thursday, 13th October 2016 @ 10:23am

Dear all,

I’m happy to say that we’ve booked our room for the first official meeting of the year, we will be in Lecture Room B at The Queen’s College on the High Street at 8PM this Friday 14th October, that is, tomorrow. The entrance is next to a bus stop and the door is underneath a statue with a dome above it.

Here is the location of the entrance on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/ES7gQt8QDu12

Something to note is that Queen’s likes us to take people inside in groups as opposed to trickling in one by one. With this in mind do please try to be prompt and aim to arrive for 7.45PM so that we can meet you at the entrance and take you in in as few groups as possible.

The running order for the night will be as follows: 8PM Samurai Champloo and Nodame Cantabile, 8.50PM Break, 9PM Mushishi and Gundam Build Fighters, 9.50PM Break, 10PM Erased and Random Episode.

Finally after we finish at about 11PM, we will be heading to the G&D’s on St Aldate’s for ice cream and to socialise after the anime, please join us if you can for this, discussions and debate often ensue and it is lots of fun.

Best wishes,

Felix

Beginning of Year Mitre Social

E-mail sent by a GroupSpaces user, Saturday, 8th October 2016 @ 4:23pm

Dear all,

Just a reminder that we’re having an informal drinks event at The Mitre pub on the High Street tomorrow from 7.30pm onwards, everyone is welcome, both existing members and freshers. Look for the round table at the back on the ground floor with the ‘OAV’ sign on it.

Also, I’m sorry to say that we’re still waiting on confirmation of our room bookings, but provided that they go
ahead, our first normal meeting of the year will be on Friday 14th October at 8pm. Room details will come shortly.

Best wishes,

Felix

New Year Update

E-mail sent by a GroupSpaces user, Monday, 3rd October 2016 @ 11:32am

Dear all,

I hope you’ve all had productive and/or enjoyable summers! My name is Felix and I am proud to be your new OAV Communications Officer for this year (or Comms for short). Freshers’ Fair is on this week at Examination Schools from Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th and we will have our stall in Room 9 at table no. 542; if you are coming to help run the stall for a session or two, your presence is greatly appreciated, if you want to come along just to say hi that’s also great.

Just like last year, we’re having a new year drinks event this Sunday 9th from 7.30pm at The Mitre pub on the High Street, we’ll be on the round table at the back with a sign saying ‘OAV’. Everyone feel free to come along, mainly this will be a way to get to know the freshers who want to join so they can ask us any questions about OAV, but also it’ll be a nice way to see people again after the long summer break.

We’re still in the process of booking rooms for our meetings this term, but provisionally the first meeting will be on Friday 14th October at 8pm. I’ll give you updates on this as they come. The shows we will be watching are Samurai Champloo, Gundam Build Fighters, Mushishi, Nodame Cantabile and Erased.

Finally if there is anyone who does not wish to receive these emails, do just drop me an email so that I can take you off our mailing list.

Best wishes,

Felix

Trinity Term End

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Saturday, 18th June 2016 @ 1:05am

Dear all,

It's difficult to understand how another year has passed so quickly, but here we are. Thank you everyone for coming and participating, whether you were at nearly all our meetings or just dipped in once or twice. I hope you all enjoyed the year. A particular thank you and good luck to those who're graduating this year!
I’m hoping that those of us who are left in Oxford over the summer will be organised enough to meet up a few times, even if only purely socially.

I will still be around next year but Felix Godfree will be taking over communications so this mailing list may hear from me less often in future. All being well, our first regular meeting next year will be on Friday 14 October, the Friday of week 1 next Michaelmas Term. I look forward to seeing many of you again then, and to greeting the next year’s new members. (In due course, volunteers to help staff our stall at Freshers’ Fair the week before (5–7 October) will be welcome.) I hope everyone has a great summer, whatever you will be doing!

Very best wishes,

Daniel

If you'd like to be included in the booking please either email oxanimevision@gmail.com or comment on the relevant post in the Facebook group by Wednesday evening. Thank you!

Our meeting will be at 8 PM in the Saskatchewan Room at Exeter as normal.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Week 6 Notices

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Thursday, 2nd June 2016 @ 8:53pm

Dear all,

Tomorrow's meeting will be in the Saskatchewan Room at Exeter College at 8 PM, as normal. All meetings from now to the end of term will be in this room.

We will probably have a meal before the meeting in week 7 (on Friday 10 June) as we do each term. Details about this will be forthcoming soon.

All best,

Daniel

Week 5

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Friday, 27th May 2016 @ 3:20pm

Dear all,

Quick reminder that the OAV meeting today is in at The Queen's College, in Lecture Room B (B, not A—a different room to the one from a couple of weeks ago).

After this week all the remaining meetings this term will be at Exeter College as usual.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Week 4

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Thursday, 19th May 2016 @ 3:37pm

Dear all,

Just a quick reminder that this week's meeting is in the Saskatchewan Room at Exeter College at 8 PM tomorrow as normal. (We will be back at The Queen's College in week 5, on Friday 27 May).

Best wishes,

Daniel

NB: different room this week

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Thursday, 12th May 2016 @ 4:20pm

Dear all,

A final reminder that we are NOT in our normal room at Exeter College tomorrow, but rather in Lecture Room A at The Queen's College. (This is the room we used for a couple of weeks in Michaelmas.)

Queen's is located on the north side of the High Street, where the bus stops are, between Queen's Lane to the east and All Souls to the West. Its distinctive entrance is a set of wooden doors up some steps from the pavement, underneath a statue which is itself underneath a kind of domed canopy thing. You can find it on Google Maps at https://goo.gl/maps/mPqTY9csds62, and I attach a picture of the entrance. Some of us will probably gather as a group before going in.

We will probably double up on one of the shows we're watching rather than showing a random first episode in the sixth slot this week, in order to fit everything into the year.

Next week we will be back at Exeter as normal, and then in week 5, the week after next, we will be at Queen's for one last time.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Week 2 Notices

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Sunday, 1st May 2016 @ 5:08pm

Dear all,

Oxford Anime Vision will meet as normal in the Saskatchewan Room at Exeter College at 8 PM this Friday.

You may remember that we were unable to book the Saskatchewan Room for the Fridays of weeks 3 and 5 (13 and 27 May). We have booked Lecture Room A at the Queen's College for our meetings on those dates. Regulars may remember this room as we used it a few times in Michaelmas term. I will make sure that directions to it are sent out in week 3.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Trinity Term Notices

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Friday, 22nd April 2016 @ 8:24pm

Dear all,

I hope everyone has been well for the last month or so! Trinity Term is upon us and so regular Oxford Anime Vision meetings at 8 PM on Fridays will return starting next Friday. This term we will be in the Saskatchewan Room at Exeter College every week except for the Fridays of week 3 (13 May) and week 5 (27 May). We haven't sorted out rooms for those two weeks yet but we will let you know as soon as we know where we will be then.

So, for this coming Friday, we will be in the usual room at Exeter at 8 PM. For anyone who needs to catch up or who is keeping track, we will be watching Ping Pong 4, Shirobako 17, Last Exile 18, Baccano 5 and Gankutsuou 17.

In other news, the Phoenix Picturehouse in Oxford is having a season of Ghibli films which will run for most of term (and beyond it), mostly on Saturday afternoons and Monday evenings: you can find the details here.

Best wishes,

Daniel,
OAV Secretary

Social & Film Night

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Tuesday, 1st March 2016 @ 2:14pm

Dear all,

As this is week 7, we will have our termly meal before the meeting this Friday. We don't have a time or place for this yet but if you want to be included let me know by emailing oxanimevision@gmail.com or on the relevant Facebook group post.

This term's film night will happen this coming Sunday, 6 March, starting at 7:30 PM in the Saskatchewan Room at Exeter College. We will be watching The Cat Returns (2002; dir. Hiroyuki Morita; Studio Ghibli) and something else (to be decided!). As usual, everyone's welcome, even if you haven't been able to get to our regular meetings.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Post-Randomthon Meal, 27 Feb

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Monday, 22nd February 2016 @ 7:26pm

Dear all,

After the randomthon this Saturday (so at around 1800) we're going to head to Taberu, the rather good Japanese restaurant on Cowley Road, for a meal. If you want to come, let me know by emailing oxanimevision@gmail.com or by commenting on the relevant Facebook post. I've made the booking for twelve and may or may not be able to extend it if we get more interest, so letting me know sooner rather than later would be safest!

Best wishes,

Daniel
OAV Secretary

Randomthon, 27 February

E-mail sent by Daniel Sawyer, Sunday, 21st February 2016 @ 12:58pm

Dear all,

The annual OAV randomthon will happen next Saturday, 27 February. This is an event at which we watch the first episodes of a bunch of shows that we’re considering showing in full in future, to help us decide what to watch next year. It’s usually a fun chance to sample a bunch of things and have some input on next year’s scheduling—though we’ll be canvassing opinion online and at regular meetings too. A very much not-final list of the first episodes we’ll be trying this year, not necessarily in this order, is as follows:

Seirei no Moribito
Welcome to the NHK
Planetes
Mushishi
Dennou Coil
Erased
Samurai Champloo
Kino's Journey

Note that these are by no means the only things we’re considering showing next year, as we also have a lot of titles that we’ve tried out over the last few years to think about.

The randomthon will happen this Saturday from 2 PM to 6 PM in the Saskatchewan Room at Exeter College, and if you have other things on or that is simply too long for you, do feel free to come and go during that time as you please.

We’ve also booked the Saskatchewan Room for a film night on Sunday 6 March, starting at 7.30 PM, though we haven’t decided what to show yet so watch this space.

Best wishes,

Daniel
OAV Secretary
