I hope this finds you well.
Just a quick update! We had a slight issue with Augustine's and the concert date has had to be moved to Friday 22nd March. As this is just a day earlier than the initial date of Saturday 23rd we hope this won't cause any problems, but if anyone is unable to attend then please remember to let us know!
Thank you to everyone coming to rehearsals, we're beginning to sound great. Numbers have been a bit down with 4th years being on holiday but now that everyone's back we're looking forward to seeing you all this Thursday. As usual, choir is starting at 6pm and orchestra at 7.30.
I hope this finds you all well! A few things for you this week..
1. A quick reminder to everyone who wants to come to the Christmas meal (a delicious curry at Red Fort and then onto the Brass Monkey to watch Sweeney Todd and Jurassic Park!) please bring your £10 to rehearsal on Thursday! Check out the event and join on facebook to be kept in the loop
2. Please take a sec to vote for the charity you think is most worthy to recieve this semester's proceeds.. http://www.facebook.com/groups/307200819293452/?fref=ts
3. All members who are are keen on a spot of carol singing (orchestra too!) please keep 1st Dec free for that!
4. As for the concert... rehearsals are well underway and sounding great. Please come to as many rehearsals as you can, in the run up to the concert it's best to have as many people attending as possible to get the most out of rehearsals! Also please remember to invite friends and family to our concert (Friday 14th December, 7.30pm) All our hard work is wasted if nobody comes to enjoy it and the more people who come the more money to a very worthwhile charity!! Again, here is the facebook event.. http://www.facebook.com/events/380796172005571/?ref=ts&fref=ts Get inviting! :)
5. If anyone has any music suggestions for next semester, send 'em in!
Phew, that's everything!! Have a nice week everyone!
I hope this finds you all well!
Rehearsals have been going really well this semester- thanks for all your hard work so far, it's shaping up to be a great Christmas concert. Numbers were down slightly last week but we're looking forward to seeing you all at tomorrow's rehearsal. Choir- good news! The Sweeney Todd music has arrived so we'll be starting that tomorrow!
Just a quick reminder for everyone who hasn't yet done so to bring their subs in tomorrow- it's only £10 for the whole year - a pretty good deal, and all of the money goes towards music costs and keeping the prices of socials down! :) Also, please remember your jersey/hoodie order forms (and I'm sure there'll be more available tomorrow for those who haven't yet got one) to make sure you keep warm this winter in EUMM style!
We've got a spiffing social planned for you after the rehearsal this evening. We'll be heading 2 minutes down the road to the Royal Medical Society (plenty of room to store instruments/coats etc), where we'll be playing a number of increasingly ridiculous team games in an epic quest for glory (because we're all still feeling inspired by the Olympics, right?). A limited amount of booze will be provided, but make sure to BYOB if you're planning on getting utterly Tchaikovsky'd. So get an early night, start thinking of hilarious team names and I'll see you all tonight!

Hope everyone has had a lovely summer. Just a quick email to say that Musical Medics starts back again this week, that is THIS THURSDAY (20th September) at Alison House. After the rehearsal we have a social organised at RMS (more details to follow...)
Choir will now start at 6pm, Lecture Room B Alison House. We are pleased to welcome our new conductor, Andy. Orchestra will begin at 7.15pm in Lecture Room A, Alison House.
The term is shaping up. We have secured sponsorship in the form of biscuits from 'Tunnocks', we have a variety of socials lined up, and we have just ordered the music from 'Jurrasic Park'. What more could you want?
As always, feel free to bring any extra players/ singers. Any questions, just drop me an email at email@example.com
See you on Thursday!
Hope everyone's exams are going okay and those who are off are making the most of their holiday! Another quick thanks for everyone who took part at the anatomy memorial service last week, it went really well!
The feedback was so great we've been asked to sing at another memorial service for an Edinburgh University professor on Friday 25th May. We need to let the university know quickly if we are able to sing at this service. Therefore if anyone who IS ABLE to sing could please reply to say so by 4pm TOMORROW at the latest so we know if we have the numbers, that'd be great!
Thanks for your help and sorry for the short timing!
Just a reminder that we are singing at the Anatomy Memorial Service tomorrow (Tuesday). Please arrive at Greyfriar's kirk at 1.40pm. Please dress smartly and bring your music and a plain black folder/ ringbinder. If you are suddenly unable to sing please email me on firstname.lastname@example.org or text me on 07970237693. This is really important as a number of people failed to attend the second rehearsal (and didn't tell me) and it will reflect badly on Musical Medics if loads of people unexpectedly don't turn up tomorrow. I appreciate it is exam time but the service should only last 35 minutes or so.
See you tomorrow,
Just a quick reminder that we'll be having a choir rehearsal tonight at 6.30 in the usual room in Alison House. We only have 2 rehearsals to prepare for the anatomy memorial service so please try to make it along.
In addition, any choir members who still have music from last semester, please bring it along tonight! This goes for any music we've covered over the last year and especially anyone who still has a copy of Wicked.
See you tonight!
Just a reminder that our first rehearsal for the Anatomy Memorial Service will take place THIS THURSDAY (26th April) 6.30pm, Alison House. We will then have one more rehearsal on the following Thursday, Thursday 3rd May.
The actual service is taking place on TUESDAY 8th MAY, time tbc, but will probably be around 2pm. It'd be great if you could all make it (even if you're not a medical student!). It is a very meaningful service, it's short, and it'd be a nice way to round off our year of singing.
We are going to do the two pieces of Rutter's' Requiem, and one new piece 'Thou Wilt Keep Him In Perfect Peace' by SS Wesley. I've attached a copy of the music, and here is a link to a recording;
If everyone could take a look at it, it'll make our rehearsals a lot easier, and if we get through the music we can have shorter rehearsals too.
Please let me know if you are a regular member of the choir, and cannot make the service. If you have any friends who'd like to come to rehearsals and the service, please invite them.
Thanks again to all choir members who sang in the concert on Saturday. The choir sounded great, and I've had a great time conducting the choir this year. Well done :)
As our last event of the year, we are singing in the Anatomy Memorial service on TUESDAY 8TH MAY (time t.b.c, but will be early afternoon). This is a lovely short service held at Greyfriar's Kirk, and is a service to commemorate all the people who have donated their bodies to the medical school. Don't worry if you're not a medical student, your participation would be greatly welcomed. If you are a first year medical student, your attendance at the service will be compulsory so you may as well come and sing!
The choir are going to sing the 'Lux Aeterna' and 'Pie Jesu' from Rutter's Requiem, and a new piece; 'Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace' by S.S Wesley ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZDPcXOl7Mw and the music can be found here; http://www0.cpdl.org/wiki/images/d/df/Wesley_peace.pdf). Our new conductor, Andy, will be conducting.
We have two short rehearsals, Thursday 26th April, Thursday 3rd May 6.30pm-7.15pm lecture room B, Alison House.
I appreciate that it is getting close to exams, but your participation would be great. If you can't make the service I'd appreciate if if you could let me know on email@example.com.
Cheers and thanks again for a great year,
I'd just like to add to the comments of everyone else, and say a big thank you and well done for Saturday's concert. I thought it went really well and the sound was superb. Thank you all for your commitment and energy in a fairly challenging programme.
We're looking for suggestions for next year's music, so please get in touch if you have some ideas. I think having tackled some difficult pieces this term one idea would be to take on some simpler music. We will also be working hard to hire some film music.
All suggestions are welcome to Imogen:
All the best,
Just wanted to say thanks again for a great concert, I hope everyone had a good night. From tickets alone we raised about £320 which is great!
Imogen will be in touch soon about the Anatomy Memorial Service on 8th May but this probably one of the last emails you'll receive from me. Thanks for a brilliant year, I hope you all return next semester!
Well good luck in your exams everyone and have a great summer!
P.S. I say I wont be in touch but if we find music missing orchestra, I will be :P
As I (really) hope you are aware, the concert is tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm in the Reid Hall.
Orchestra: please be AT THE REID by 5.30pm we don't have long and need all the time we can get. BRING ALL MUSIC TO THE CONCERT. Even if you will be using your desk partner's music, bring it with you. If we return another incomplete set of music to the library it is likely they will not let the society take music out next year so every part must be returned.
Choir: please be at the Reid by 6.30pm for a quick rehearsal. Bring a BLACK FOLDER for your music.
Concert dress is all black for girls, djs or black trousers and white/black shirt for guys. Please be ready before you arrive, there may not be time to change.
Invite all your friends and family, tickets £5/3, add people to the facebook group http://www.facebook.com/events/331065940275452/ remember all the proceeds of the concert are going to charity.
Finally, we will be having a social after the concert in Room at 34 where we have reserved some tables. Please do come along and any friends and family are more than welcome.
Choir also keep an eye out for emails from Imogen in regards to the Anatomy Memorial service on Tuesday 8th May, further details to come.
Thanks everyone, it's been a great year, I'm sure the concert will be great :) thanks for all of your hard work and see everyone tomorrow!
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine, long may it last!
For those of you coming to see Sweeney Todd, reminder that it is tomorrow. We will be meeting in the foyer of the Churchill Theatre at 7.15pm (7.30pm start) so please be there by then. The address is Churchill Theatre, 33a Morningside Road, I've attached a google maps link to help anyone if needs be.
It is the last rehearsal on Thursday! It is VERY important that everyone attends. You should be able to buy tickets for the concert this week £5/3 though they will be available on the door too. Concert is 7.30pm on Saturday Reid Hall with a rehearsal beginning at 5.30pm. Please be READY TO PLAY at 5.30pm, had something to eat and be in concert dress (all black girls, djs/black trousers+black or white shirt guys) for 5.30 as there may not be time inbetween the rehearsal and concert particularly for orchestra. Orchestra too, please make sure all original copies of the music are brought to rehearsals this week.
Any questions about anything please email me.
see you all on thursday,
I have been asked by the string orchestra to find out if any of our violin players would be interested in going on a tour from the 3rd to the 6th of June to Mull and Iona.
Anyone who is interested let me know and I will get more details for you.
A few things this week.
First – social to see Sweeney Todd on Tuesday 27th May. I have bought tickets for the following people: Jenny Nobes, Kate Fenton, Gwen Harrison, Rachel Murray, Lieke Tolkamp, Rachel Harvey, Vivian Pringle, Shyla Hossain and Stuart and Imogen. If anyone else wishes to come along, tickets are £10 and available from the Usher Hall box office or from http://www.edinburghtheatre.co.uk/tickets/
We have two rehearsals left, please do your best to be there, orchestra we are hoping to have some guest players come to a rehearsal so please be there so we can finalise these pieces. We are going to be taking names for the programme tomorrow. If you really cannot be there please email Heather by FRIDAY NIGHT with your name and instrument/voice so it can be put in the programme at firstname.lastname@example.org
As I hope you all know our concert is on Saturday 31st March in the Reid Hall, please tell friends and family. Please join the facebook group and invite others to the concert from there too http://www.facebook.com/events/331065940275452/
Concert dress is all black for girls and either djs/ black trousers and white or black shirt for guys.
Finally, if anyone knows any percussion players that could take part in our concert please email me and let me know.
Just a reminder of the social on the 27th March to see Sweeney Todd, tickets are £10, money MUST be brought this Thursday, hope as many of you can come as possible!
Second, we have 3 rehearsals left before the concert. Choir is sounding great and I hope to see as many people as possible on Thursday, orchestra - please can everyone try and attend the remaining rehearsals. We have been desperately lacking in people recently and unfortunately we may have to start cutting pieces if we don't pick things up on Thursday so please do your best to be there. Sorry to mention it again but I want to make sure our concert is as much of a success as possible.
Finally, thanks to orchestra's biscuit committee - that was great last week!
See you all on Thursday,
A few things this week:
Choir: please make every effort to come to rehearsals this week. As I’m sure you are aware Imogen will not be conducting next year and we have two new potential conductors coming along to see the choir and have a quick go conducting so we can decide who to have next year. Please be there so they can experience leading the full choir. Also, we have 4 rehearsals left before the concert so we need to make as much use of the time that we can!
Orchestra: unfortunately I was ill last Thursday so did not make it to rehearsals, however I did see the message on facebook organising an earlier departure to orchestra from Pollock which was great to see. Please again this week try and be at rehearsals to START at 7.30pm and as for choir, regular attendance is pretty essential from now until the concert.
ALL: we have found that there is a performance of Sweeney Todd at the theatre on Tuesday 27th March which we were thinking would be good to see together. Tickets are £10 and I’ll mention it again on Thursday. If you wish to go, we will need the money by Thursday 15th March, though we will take money this Thursday too, and we'll book the tickets then. It will be a good break from essays and deadlines and the like!
Finally: Concert is Saturday 31st March, Reid Hall, invite your friends and family, we’ll have tickets available in a couple of weeks. Please email me and let me know if you cannot be there.
See you all Thursday,
First of all, thanks so much for everyone who came to the AGM last week and those of you who filled out that survey for me, it'll be a big help.
Rehearsals are as usual this week, 6.30 for choir and 7.30 for orchestra - orchestra please note we will be starting to PLAY at 7.30 so please be there early enough so this is possible. We are currently losing too much time at the start of rehearsals.
Please note we don't have long until the concert and attendance hasn't been great recently, I know some committments are unavoidable but please make every effort to come to as many rehearsals as possible between now and the concert on the 31st March.
See you all tomorrow,
