Our Mission Mothers & More is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of mothers through support, education and advocacy. We address mothers' needs as individuals and members of society and promote the value of all the work mothers do.
It's time to put the "me" back in Mommy. Our modern world, with all of its opportunities for paid work in and outside the home, has unintentionally isolated us. As a mother it can be difficult to meet new people and make new friends. Mothers & More provides not only scheduled "me time" but the chance to make new friends that might not be right down the street- but are right on the same wavelength.
Mothers & More creates an extended neighborhood of women with whom members can share concerns, friendship, acceptance and FUN. When you come to a meeting or join us for an activity, you'll get to meet mothers from all walks of life. In our chapter we have mothers of twins, mothers with combined families, and mothers who have adopted children. We have single mothers, mothers of children with special needs and mothers with military spouses deployed overseas. Some of our members are just getting started with a baby on the way- while others have teenagers. We all have different paths to and through motherhood, but we are all working to make it a rich time in our lives and those of our children.
So why do we call ourselves "Mothers & More"?
The first part is easy- all of our members are mothers. The More part is what makes our group unique. We support all aspects of a mother's identity. It can be easy to forget with all of the errands and soccer practice and diapers that we are also the people we were before we became mothers. Sure She was a little different- (ok, lets face it- A LOT different) but She is still there. She is still a lawyer, an engineer, a graphic designer, a master Scrabble player, or a Yoga goddess. Now more than ever She needs some attention.
Mothers & More Lee's Summit offers programs that support the Mom and More in each of us. Our meetings and social events provide much-needed "me time" - time to have an intelligent conversation with other grown-ups, time to laugh with friends, time to talk about a book that doesn't have pictures, time to create and finish craft projects without interruptions or distractions.
