About this group

The Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society (LGHS) assists both the novice and the professional genealogist in the search for their ancestors.

When the LGHS was founded, the stated purpose was "to collect, preserve and make available genealogical and historical materials; to assist its members in tracing their genealogy; to ascertain the location of public and private records, that they may be made available to students of genealogy; and to aid in investigation of this nature."

Today the purpose of the LGHS remains the same. Ongoing programs and special projects focus upon these goals.
