Imperial Entrepreneurs 2010

E-mail newsletter sent by Niccolo Corsini, Thursday 28th January 2010 @ 12:59pm

Hi everyone

Its been both a  very exciting a tough week for IE. Yesterday we were invited by MP Mark Prisk to the Parliament for the launch of Enterprise Alliance UK, a  partnership between NACUE (of which we are founding members), Enterprise Educators UK and the ISBE. This is a very important endorsement, across the aisle, of the importance of University Enterprise to the future of our economy. You can rest assured that this new alliance will be lobbying for entrepreneurs at the highest political level. Watch this space.

Now to the much anticipated Ideas Empowered. We have finally closed the 1st round of judging and after fierce competition (+20 entries) and merciless judging we are glad to announce our 7 finalists. Each entry has been reviewed by at least 2 of our 14 experienced judges. Feedback on individual entries will be released today with a breakdown according to judging criteria.

We would like to thank everyone for the enthusiasm and hard-work that have made this 1st round so exciting for all parties involved. In no particular order our finalists are:

Move-it
Move-it is a simple kit of self-adhesive cardboard parts, which transforms a package into an easy-to-use trolley.

VR CAT
Voice Recognition, Conversion And Translation software for online text messaging worldwide.

Later London
LaterLondon is a smartphone app guide to London nightlife featuring dynamic map displays and micro-reviews.

Size-Connect
A size recommendation engine for clothing: a revolution for online retailers.

Power-Fi
Game Controlling Balls: Making a Game Controller out of a Gyroscope

BaseHunter
Currently Top Secret

Medissential
Medissential is a durable, water‐proof, customisable wrist band that reminds children should they forget continuous-demand medical products, like EpiPen® / inhalers

Whats's next?
The Finalist shall start preparing for the Finals to take place on the 19th of March at Imperial with a Dragon's Den style pitching event in front of a panel of 3-4 prestigious judges (TBA). The format will be 7min pitches with slides followed by
3-5min Q&A. Information will be sent to Finalists via email shortly.

In the meantime we highly recommend you make use of your mentors and attend the fantastic "Investor readiness" workshop by Cmypitch.com on the 15-16th Feb which will be giving you the best training out there in pitching skills and raising investment. Attendance to this workshop normally worth 300 pounds has been discounted to 99pounds for our members and is FREE for our Finalists (see below).

Our next event is on the 10th Feb at 6pm in the LGT at the Business school. We are excited to have Wendy Tan White, an Imperial alumnus and very successful entrepreneur. Space is trictly limited. Register here!

For those of you who didn't enter the competition in time or did not make it to the Finals, heres your second chance. NACUE is organising the National Varsity pitch which promises to be awesome with among other the chance to pitch to BBC Dragons and compete with other Universities. Current finalists are obviously welcome to enter and the entry forms are of similar format.
