A hike on Sunday: T2 Panorama ridge hike from Gurnigel to Stockhorn
Sunday, October 21, 2018, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Hosted by Alex M, see https://www.meetup.com/Meetup-Bern/events/255634506

Hi friends

let`s go for a hike from Gurnigel to Stockhorn, a classical panorama ridgeway hike along the Bern alps.
After a walking time of 4.30h we reach the Stockhorn at 2182 m altitude. Technically it is an T2 Hike without special difficulties, - though it is altogether more than 900m upwards and more than 300 m down, - so a rather normal/good condition is recommended.
We can also have some longer pauses and enjoy the view.

From Stockhorn we go by gondolas down to "Erlenbach im Simmental". and return then by the Lötschberger train to Bern.

As far by now Weather seems to be sunny, - at least no rain, - it can be colder though. Take 3 layers with you, hiking shoes and a Picknick.

We meet Bern train station on platform 8 at 08:00.
08:12 we take the train to Thurnen.

In Thurnen we take the bus 323, direction Schwarzenburg and we arrive at 09:13 in Gurnigel Wasserscheide.
Don't forget to buy only a one way ticket Bern - Gurnigel, Wasserscheide.

Look here for details:

Looking forward!
Alex
(Hikes are more difficult than walks. The SAC grades are T1 to T6. They are explained in German and English on the web page https://www.summitpost.org/grading-hiking-routes-sac-hiking-scale/187254)

I suggest this walk on Sunday 21 from Voncent of Meetup Bern

Walk through the Lavaux Vineyards (Lutry to St-Saphorin)
http://www.groupspaces.com/icb/item/1190734

Another beautiful place to catch autumn colours.

This is more or less a repeat of the walk we did in 2016.

Here was the tour from 2016 :
https://www.meetup.com/fr-FR/Meetup-Bern/events/235173196/

A bit of information about Lavaux :

Covering 800 hectares, Lavaux is the largest contiguous vineyard region in Switzerland, and its daringly constructed hillside terraces have been protected by UNESCO since 2007.

Walking between Lutry and Saint Saphorin we will pass through the most spectacular parts of Lavaux, especially its steepest part around Dézaley. Lavaux is beautiful in any season but with autumn colors and light it's definitely special.

It's an easy 3h15mn walk without much height difference (approx. 300m up and the same down) that does not really need more details or any difficulty rating. With breaks we should count a good 4+ hours though.

Route with map and height profile :
https://map.schweizmobil.ch/?lang=en&showLogin=true&bgLayer=pk&season=summer&resolution=20&E=2544603&N=1149564&layers=Wanderland&trackId=5049492

This time we’ll try to make it all the way to Saint Saphorin (had to stop in Rivaz back then).

Vine tasting will also be an integral part of the tour and we’ll stop at least at two different spots, both with great views, which are directly on our route (the first being somewhere near Montagny and the second one, where we stopped in 2016, just before Rivaz ).

So yes, for the first time on any hike this year you’ll be allowed to drink before the finish line ;-)

MEETING POINT AND ORGANISATIONAL DETAILS

Meeting point is Bern on platform 6 at 11:50 under the sector B signs.
We take the 12:04 train to Lausanne and then a train to Lutry where we will arrive at 13:40.

For the return, I can’t give a precise timetable. We’ll probably take a train sometime between 18:00 and 19:00.
For such walks in larger groups we typically take it easy and often have a few slower participants. DO NOT buy any ticket with a precise time !

Also, given that such groups on such hikes tend to split quite a lot (usually reconnecting but not always, for example when some people decide to make a rush in front for whatever reason) : everyone is supposed to have checked the route and know which villages and places we’ll go through as well as the different places with public transportation.

Take a one-way ticket to Lutry via Lausanne.

Sneakers are fine on this walk. Bring a camera, you will want to take a lot of pictures.

Nüsse und Co

Who's coming? See all
