The University of Hull LGBT+ is one of the Liberation Campaigns and part of the Welfare and Community zone of the Hull University Union. We are here to make sure that all LGBT+ students are represented within the union, provide a safe and friendly place to meet other LGBT+ people and improve LGBT+ students lives at the union and university.
We organise socials, events and campaigns that help publicise acceptance and awareness of LGBT+ issues. By working with the Union, University and wider LGBT+ community. As we aren't a society anyone can come to our events and you don't need to pay a membership fee. As a Liberation Campaign we make sure to represent and talk to all LGBT+ students not just the ones who come to events.
You could also sign up to our mailing list, like our facebook page, where we post notifications of upcoming events, and join our facebook group, where people can chat and post links. The facebook group is hidden, so it will never show up on your wall.
If you want to talk to one of the committee members, we're holding regular confidential drop-in office hours.
Hull University Union Awards
We're proud to announce that the University Of Hull LGBT+ in 2015/2016 won the Welfare and Community Team of the Year award at the HUU awards and in 2016/17 Connor Massey the LGBT+ Officer for last year won the Welfare and Community Volunteer of the Year award at the HUU Awards.
"Connor has shown nothing but unwavering commitment to LGBT+ committee over the past year and helped it grow from strength to strength as Co-Chair. He has been welcoming and encouraging to new students and genuinely cares about the people he meets. I am delighted he won the award!"
"LGBT+ have provided not just a safe space but also a welcoming environment to all students over the past few years and this last year has been no different. Through regular events and campaigns they have improved their outreach to students showing compassion and understanding along the way. I look forward to seeing what they achieve as a committee over the next year."
"They are the most organised and helpful group in welfare. Really involved in the union and open to all students." "I have nominated this group becuase i beleive this group has gone from strength to strength this year with pretty much building up its awareness." "LGBT used to be a very secular, closed off and difficult to approach society, the LGBT committee of 2012-2013 changed that, and made the society far more open, helpful and approachable as well as working hard to fight the stigma faced by LGBT+ people at university."
"This year the team have made a strong impact in the university and the union. Their dedication and teamwork have lead to some extremely well-executed campaigns and events which have created a legacy for the future of the committee and positively affected the lives of many LGBT+ students. On top of this they have also managed to raise a very impressive amount of funds for the group which they intend to reinvest in the welfare and future of the students."
"The reason for the nomination is Because of how much work the committee and members put in this year especially with trans awareness week :)" "Simply the best group of people I have ever worked with, producing some of the best outputs I've ever been a part of, from socials to fundraising. They set the trend on fundraising and provide a varied range of events for the LGBT+ community." "Have done the most campaigns and fundraising, are the most active society in terms of member involvement, have regular and enjoyable socials, have made the uni a better place." "Most visible part of the welfare team and do a lot of very successful charity work."
