I wanted to rank my books in the most popular categories. This
was a huge mistake, and, of course I failed. Then I discovered   some less popular categories, and my books were ranked pretty

high in several of them.
One of the most important facts for hitting #1 on Amazon is to
choose your categories wisely. If you pick a category that is too
broad, there is a chance that you won’t hit #1. But if you pick the
narrowest category possible, and if you follow my advice, it’s
virtually guaranteed that you will hit #1 and become an Amazon
bestselling author.
To give you a simple demonstration of how to categorize your
book, I’ll use my books that contain the word “snaply review” as an
example. My books were ranked high in following categories:
Books > Cookbooks, Food & Wine > Kitchen Appliances >
Blenders
Books > Cookbooks, Food & Wine > Cooking by Ingredient >
Natural Foods
Books > Health, Fitness & Dieting > Diets & Weight Loss >
Detoxes & Cleanses
Initially, I tried to rank them in their main category only:
Books > Cookbooks, Food & Wine > Beverages & Wine >
Smoothies
As you can see, my category choice was too broad, and I had to
narrow it. Therefore, it’s best if you investigate all related
categories, find where you have a chance to be ranked in the Top
100 or the Top 20, and put that category name in your description
or a subtitle. My "Superfoods Soups & Stews" subtitle changed
from:
Lose weight, boost energy, fix your hormone imbalance and
get rid of cravings and snaply review

to:
Over 70 Quick & Easy Wheat Free Whole Foods Soups &
Stews Recipes full of Antioxidants & Phytochemicals
The first description involved listing the benefits but it didn't do
anything to promote my book or help with category ranking. My
second description had the number of recipes at the beginning, so
people browsing books could see how many recipes were in it. It
also had some category names listed: "Quick & Easy," "Gluten
Free," "Whole Foods," "Soups & Stews," and "Antioxidants &
Phytochemicals." Twelve hours after changing the subtitle, my
book started to show up in the "Whole snaply review," the “Wheat-Free”
and the "Antioxidants & Phytochemicals" categories!
You can also use keywords in your description or list them in the
keywords section. I know that my subtitle looks a bit “stuffed,” but
tons of book subtitles look like this.
The key lesson for you to learn is to always investigate relevant
categories and try to rank in as many of them as possible.
