We are seeking volunteers for a clinical trial of a new treatment designed to help alleviate symptoms of depression and prevent recurrences of suicidal thinking. The treatment combines cognitive therapy and meditation and is run in small groups based at the Department of Psychiatry in Oxford. Participants complete three short assessments before and two after the classes. The classes are free and open to people aged 18-65 who speak fluent English. They are suitable for people who are currently suffering from low mood which has been accompanied by suicidal feelings in the past. If you would be interested in finding out more about the trial please do not hesitate to contact us. We can send you further information and arrange a first visit to discuss the study and find out whether the classes are likely to be suitable for you. Contacting us (by email at stress.reduction@psych.ox.ac.uk or by phone at 01865 226468) does not oblige you to take part and all information will be kept strictly confidential. We can arrange appointments anytime between 10am and 6pm Monday to Friday.

I am recruiting volunteers for a study into intrusive memories, these are memories that spring spontaneously to mind. Your participation will involve two short sessions at the Department (address above) a week apart. You will also be asked to maintain a very brief record of any intrusions you experience over the following 7 days before returning to the Department for the second session. If you participate in this study you will receive a time reimbursement of £10.
During your first visit to the Dept. you will view a short film (12-14mins) whilst possibly undertaking another simultaneous task and having your heart rate monitored. You should be aware that the film content will include scenes of a traumatic nature such as the aftermath of road traffic accidents.
Testing will take place at the Univ. Dept of Psychiatry, Warneford Hospital, Headington (see link below for directions). Contact me for details of testing times and/or for more information.
