 Dear members,

As you are either lazing in the sun or enjoying the last days of your summer job, your new Committee is working out an exciting program for next year. Here is a quick update for you.

First of all, we have rebranded to Brookes Entrepreneurs this year to trim our title and refine what the society stands for. We feel that it allows us to be more focused with promoting entrepreneurship and more inclusive of students studying any subjects.

Over the summer we have been working on a new logo and website, confirming exciting speakers for you, and planning our introductory event. Branded hoodies and other goodies are also getting produced as I write this. You will get a chance to meet the new Committee at Fresher’s Fair, and we will be around all campuses recruiting members throughout the term. From now on you can also follow us on Twitter – BENTREPRENEURS.

So look out for our updates and we will see you at one of the events. To give you a taste of what’s coming, here’s an exciting competition for you - http://www.princes-trust.org.uk/support_us/million_makers/community/university_challenge.aspx This is an excellent opportunity to spice up your CV, network, get work experience, and have some fun. The deadline for registration is end of September, so start building your teams if you want to be part of it!

In the mean time if you are graduating this year have a look at

www.gradjobs.co.uk and register for a fast-track at a job fair by clicking the button at the top left corner of the page.

See you soon!

"How to Lead in Turbulent TImes"

Posted by Edward Robbs, Wednesday 11th March 2009 @ 5:25pm

Claudi Santiago is coming to Oxford Brookes to speak directly to students about “how to lead in turbulent times”

Claudi Santiago is a senior vice president of GE and the president and CEO of GE's Oil & Gas business.

Appointed to his current role in 1999, he has led the business through a period of significant growth and has overseen the transformation of a traditional manufacturing company into a world-class business partner to many of the world's leading oil and gas industry players. Mr. Santiago joined GE in 1980 as a project manager with GE Information Services. In the subsequent years he held positions of increasing responsibility across Europe, and in 1991 he moved to Rockville, Maryland, to become worldwide marketing leader for GE Information Services, eventually moving to Paris to lead the business in Europe.

Mr. Santiago received the GE Chairman Leadership Award in 2006 for being a key driving force for the growth and transformation of the Oil & Gas business.

“GE Oil & Gas was acquired in 1995, and in just six years, we have built a $2 billion global business with more than 1,000 customers. And yet we are a "turnaround" story”.

This event is free of charge and anyone is welcome to attend. It will also be followed by a reception in the Lloyd building with Mr. Santiago.

"Launch Smart" a talk by Brad Rosser

Posted by Trisha, Thursday 12th February 2009 @ 11:12am

Brad Rosser has worked with two of the world’s most famous entrepreneurs before co-founding and chairing the UK’s largest residential property investment company. As the right-hand-man to Sir Richard Branson, Rosser oversaw the launch and development of three Virgin brands. Before working alongside Sir Branson, Rosser worked with one of Australia’s most famous entrepreneurs, Alan Bond. Currently Rosser spends his time working on start-up companies and so far has raised £1bn in start-up investments. He is also an Enterprise Week Ambassador and regular speaker.

Brad Rosser believes in taking practical steps to business start-ups and his ‘can do’ attitude has led to him being one of the most successful business builders in the UK. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to hear him speak directly to Brookes students.

This event will be followed by a reception with Mr. Rosser in the Lloyd building.
