This event is in the past.
Following on the very successful 2012 exhibition of “Crafters at Work” FOCAL (Friends of Central Library) have organised a repeat event when exponents of traditional as well as contemporary crafts will actually be plying their craft in the library from 10am -2pm on Saturday 22 November at Central Library, Parade Street, Cape Town .
Visitors to the library will be able to watch and speak with the Weavers, Embroiderers, Quilters, Lace-makers, Beaders and other handcrafters as they work. There will also be a workshop on how to turn colourful art paper or posters into lovely gift bags; how saleable mosaic items are made.Visitors will be encouraged to add a few rows as well as put faces on their purchase of one of our knitted teddies proceeds of which will be donated as part of our “Teddy Babies for Babies in Need” project. And for that special Christmas gift there’ll be a range of handcrafted items for sale .
Short films on various other crafts will be shown during the morning. Tea, coffee and biscuits @ R5:00 will be available from FOCAL volunteers in the BOOK ROOM. All funds raised go to the library
FOCAL sees this as an opportunity to promote the wonderful work being done by craft persons in Cape Town, the Guilds themselves and of course, the excellent collection of craft books in the library. They hope thus to inspire others to try their hand at something different as much for pleasure as well as for the possibility of deriving income from their output.
There is no charge for entrance to the event. Enquiries can be made to the BOOK ROOM on 021 444 0988 or to Marcia on 083 539 8442 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org
