Bored? Lonely? Hopefully not. But many older people feel like this the majority of the time. Age Aid was set up to help ease the boredom and loneliness many older people feel. We are a group of student volunteers who aim to improve the lives of older people in a small way by visiting them in their homes or nursing homes. Each client will be paired with one volunteer who then visits the client on a weekly basis during term-time, for an hour or two each time. The volunteer provides company and assistance with small chores if requested (although we are not a cleaning/shopping service!). You can choose the times to visit to fit in with your inevitably hectic timetable. It will only take up about an hour per week (less than the average student spends on Facebook), will look good on your C.V., is a great way to ‘give something back’ and will hopefully be fun—older people can be very entertaining, with interesting stories, a different perspective and a lifetime of experiences! We are a new group so are currently looking for lots of volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or would like more information please contact me (see below for details).
