Are you confused about what to include in your lab report?
Here is a format that can help you write a lab report.
Essentials of a Lab Report
Title page of the Lab Report
Start your lab report with a title. It is not essential that every instructor would want a title page. But if you want to include the title page, it would be a single page with the following components mentioned.
The title of your experiment conducted.
Name of your lab partner (If there is one)
The name of your instructor
The date when the experiment was performed.
Submission date of your lab report
Title of the Lab Report
The title of your essay should describe your experiment. It should be a brief description of the main points and objectives of your experiment or investigation.
Make sure that the title is short and precise. It should not be more than 10 words. It is better to start your title with a keyword.
You can also write a brief sentence to describe your experimental design.
Mention all the materials and equipment used during the experiment.
Method of Experimentation
Describe the method you used in your experiment in a detailed way. Every step should be described in a detailed and sufficient manner.
Use bullet points while writing your method of experimentation. That would be easier to write in a detailed manner.
Your method should be written in a way that is easy for anyone else to replicate your method.
Make sure that the steps mentioned are in a chronological manner.
You can also use diagrams, graphs and flowcharts to describe the method you used in your experiment.
Data is what you have recorded and collected during your experiment. Write down the data you have collected as a result of your experiment. You can write down the raw numerical data in the form of a table.
Keep in mind that you have to compile all the data in this process. Do not interpret what you have collected.
The basic purpose is to show what you have collected.
Results of your experiment
Now describe the data you have collected as a result of your experiment. Data was in numerical figures; your results will be in words.
You can also discuss the results under the same heading. That depends on your teacher’s requirements.
