These bat boxes were designed by the Kent Bat Group and are very simple and inexpensive to build from offcuts of timber.
We have installed several of these boxes in our batbox scheme at the Knapp and Papermill nature reserve and regularly find pipistrelles and occasionally barbastelles using them.
The boxes can be mounted on trees - as you can see in these pictures - or on a building and because they are open at the bottom they do not require any cleaning.
