Hello Fellow Animal Advocates!
Well, Star & Lin (Cafe Evolution) and myself decided to hold our monthly meetings on the 3rd Thursday of the month, rather than 3rd Wednesday, since they'd prefer to have use there when the cafe is open. I've also decided to shoot for ending the meeting at 7:30, rather than 8:00, due to some members' feedback. But if we need to go on past 7:30, it's still an option. So our next monthly meeting will be Thursday, March 15th, 6:00-7:30 (optional dinner @ 5:00).
WMARA will also have its monthly Educational Subcommittee meeting on March 12th, 4:30 @ Haymarket Cafe in Northampton (http://www.haymarketcafe.com/directions.html). We are currently working on: local video presentations, distributing DVD's, creating a WMARA brochure, posting flyers, & tabling events. If you'd like to help in any way, please let me know...or better yet, join us on the 12th!
At the March meeting, we'll be planning and dicussing the Baystate pig lab campaign and April 19th protest with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), leafleting about the pig lab in both Springfield and Noho, as well as legislation, and many other upcoming events (more info. to come!):
- VegWorcester Fest (http://vegworcester.com/vegfest2012/) – April 15th
- March Meatout Table (downtown Northampton) - March 31st
- Baystate Medical Center Pig Lab Protest – April 19th (see more below)
- Earth Day Table (@ Earth Day event?) - April 22nd
- Humane Lobby Day – April 26th
- Shrine Circus Protest (Big E) – April 26th – April 29th
- Vegan Bake Sale (Northampton, Gay Pride Day ) - May 12th
- Letter-writing Party @ Café Evolution (with MA Humane Society’s director…& free vegan food!) – May 17th, 7:00pm
Baystate Medical Center Pig Lab Protest – April 19th @ 759 Chestnut St., Springfield. Mark your calendars!!! Your attendance to this event is extremely important, as we'll be joined by both PCRM and Dr. Marge Peppercorn, a Sudbury doctor who's been speaking out against animal testing for many years now. You can see her letter to the editor against Baystate at http://www.masslive.com/opinion/index.ssf/2011/06/letters_to_the_editor_whitey_b.html.
PCRM will be doing a press release and will even post a billboard sometime soon against Baystate's pig lab! :) (Not sure when or where it'll be, but will let you know as soon as I find out and send a picture). Signs and flyers will be provided.
I'm also trying to organize a March Meatout event in downtown Northampton on March 31st, but need at least 2 others to assist. It's a prime opportunity, as we'll have food samples and tons of literature, all provided to us for free. So please let me know ASAP if you can help...thanks!
Another event I'll organize if at least one other person can help is an Earth Day table on April 22nd. I'm checking out Earth Day events and will possibly grab a spot. If not, we can still have a table that day in Noho to educate folks about the extreme impact non-veganism has on our environment.
If you'd like to help organize or table at any upcoming events, please let me know...I'd greatly appreciate any help you can give! Also, if anyone would like to carpool, especially to Worcester or Boston, please let me know &/or post it on our Facebook page.
Hope to see you at the March meeting &/or other upcoming events! :)
