National Blueberry Pancake Day

Sunday, January 28th, 2018 (all day)

This event is in the past.

When you think of local agriculture, blueberries are likely not the first thing that comes to mind, however... since the late 1990's, California blueberries are worth keeping in mind.  For a little history on the subject, take a look at this 2009 Los Angeles Times article:  http://www.latimes.com/food/la-fo-blueberry27-2009may27-story.html  ;

Besides being tasty, blueberries are also very good for you. They are low in calories -- fewer than 100 for a full cup.  That same one cup of berries delivers 14% of the recommended daily dose of fiber and nearly a quarter of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

If you have a hankering for local blueberries, there is a blueberry farm in Santa Barbara.  This is not an official product endorsement, but their website is interesting and includes links to some great blueberry recipes:

We'll see you again in July, National Blueberry Month!
