This event is in the past.
There are two opportunities for you to support agriculture and economic development in Ventura County at the Board of Supervisors. The Board is holding hearings on the damage to agriculture from the Thomas Fire and on the 2040 General Plan Update. It's important that the Board hear from our local agricultural community about protecting the viability of local agriculture and promoting local economic growth.
At 10:00 AM, the Board will see a presentation by Agricultural Commissioner Henry Gonzalez on the economic damage to the local agriculture industry from the Thomas Fire. This is a great opportunity for our members to communicate with the Board the important role ag played in the Thomas Fire and even to share your own story about how you contributed to the fire protection or recovery effort.
At 1:30 PM, the Board will be holding a special workshop to discuss the Vision Statement and Guiding Principles for the 2040 General Plan Update. These will be the framework for the goals and policies for the county that will affect your businesses and property rights for 20 years.
It is critical that farmers, landowners and businesses attend this study session and make comments. If you were selected for a committee for the General Plan Update process, it is important that you take this opportunity to represent your issue (ie. water, agriculture, open space etc.) at this Board of Supervisors hearing.
If you are unable to attend these sessions, you are invited to submit letters to the Board stating your position. If you need help writing a letter to the Board, please contact Sean at email@example.com. CoLAB's comments on the top issues for the Vision Statement and Guiding Principles can be found here. You can email the Board directly via firstname.lastname@example.org.
