You Turns is a collective impact initiative, which at first glance, seems to address attendance issues but upon deeper reflection uncovers complex problems around Mental Fitness and Health. More profoundly it is about an urgent need for the entire adult community to reassess its approach so that we can impact positive change for our young people. So the first “You” in need of turning in You Turns is the adult community including Government, Non-Profits and Community.
This school food map includes stories throughout the country on efforts to place local and healthy foods in schools. While the map seems incomplete, it is a beneficial way to begin the conversation on school food security.
A systemic and sustainable move to a culture of whole child development is required to achieve a child’s long-term cognitive, social, and physical skills development as well as societal well-being. How a society views children has changed over the ages: from the time of the Industrial Revolution when they were looked upon as fragile and in need of training to current views: "Children are eager to learn and participate, and should be considered citizens at the moment of birth -- they are born curious and competent, connected to the world with ethical thinking, and in a perpetual state of active learning."
