We are UCLU's first ever motorsports club, bringing affordable racing to everyone at all levels, from a fun race against your friends in social events, to competitive racing in the British Universities Karting Championship (BUKC).
At the club we provide our members the opportunity to have fun racing for heavily-discounted prices at tracks in and around London throughout the year. Karting is great fun; a high adrenaline high speed rush bringing a welcome break to the rigors of studying at a world class university. Everyone is welcome, regardless of previous karting experience, we provide relaxed races for those newer to karting whilst some members of the club will get to compete in the fastest karts in Europe, representing UCL in the British Universities Karting Championship (BUKC). So whether you want to cruise nice and easy around a track and have a bundle of laughs along the way, or race at break-neck speed to get the adrenaline pumping, whether you’ve never sat in a kart before but fancy giving it a go or think you are the next Lewis Hamilton, we are the right club for you.

The AGM for one of your favourite clubs is coming up very soon - feel free to join us over lunch next Wednesday, where we will provide refreshments at Foster Court, have our elections and a brief discussion about the club during our Annual General Meeting.
Our Karting AGM will be held on Wednesday 18th March, in Foster Court 233 from 1PM - 2PM.
There are two main things that we will address:
1) Election of new officers
2) A recap of the year with suggestions for the future of the club.
I cannot recommend taking a position within the club's committee enough. You have a huge impact on the direction that the club will take, and also learn a huge amount about managing people and sustaining a club you are passionate about at UCL. On top of all of this the role looks fantastic on a CV and always leads to a great discussion at interviews!
On Wednesday we will be electing: President - Overall Responsibility Treasurer - Finances and Subsidy Split BUKC Main Captain - Managing Main Team BUKC Rookie Captain - Managing "Rookie" Team PR & Sponsorship Officer - Direction of Club Publicity and Sponsorship Application Social Secretary - Coordinating and Publicising Social Events
You may hold more than one of these positions. The whole committee will be working together over the year - roles are not as discrete as they might appear.
If you would like to run for a position or just have questions about specific duties, please inform me (Akshay Lakhani) by Facebook or a reply to this email - I and the other committee members can also offer advice about positions and information about how running the club works. It's been a great experience for us so far!
If you can make this time, please do come, even if you don't want to run for a position, or just want a nice quiet place to chill out during your lunchtime. Every member in attendance can vote for the candidates they think should take positions, so if you want more excellent karting for years to come then input here is crucial.
Of course, if you are running for a position, it is important to attend!
With just 3 days to go until our prime event of the term, its time for all you last minute buyers to get clicking! Event and Travel details to our Daytona Sandown event below:
The next event the karting club is holding is on Wednesday 4th March at Daytona Sandown, a new but thoroughly tested track for the club to visit, within a one hour journey of campus (travel details below). The track is 900m long, complete with a fleet of twin engine RT8 Prokarts and is located in the centre of Sandown Park Racecourse. Tickets are available to purchase now at a massive discount through the UCLU Shop for £32.32:
We will be meeting at UCL campus in the main quad by the steps beneath the portico at 13:30 and will head to Warren street station together from there. We will all take the southbound Victoria Line to Vauxhall, where we aim to catch the train to Esher, a short walk from where the track is located. For anybody planning on making their own way, please reply to this so we know not to wait for you at UCL.
Once we get there we will receive a full safety briefing for all drivers to participate in, explaining all the information needed for any new drivers who will be joining us. After the briefing we will gear up and get out on track for a 10-minute practice session, where the 15 drivers will battle it out for pole position. Once the 10 minutes are over we will commence a 20-minute race from the grid starting from our qualifying position, where we will race to the chequered flag and the winner will be bathed in glory, applause and also leaderboard points!
For those of you wanting to get a little heads up on the rest of us, here's a short video of a few laps around the circuit (hopefully there won't be as many spins in our race!):
