Auditions - The Fantasticks

The Players will hold open auditions for the musical, The Fantasticks by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt. The production runs March 29 – April 20, 2013 at the Owen Theatre. Jeffrey L. Baldwin directs and Dave Englert is Musical Director.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, February 3rd at 7pm and Monday, February 4th at 7 pm. Call backs will be Wednesday February 5th at 7pm if needed. All auditions will be held at The Owen Theatre.

The Players have an open call casting policy. No roles are precast. Everyone is encouraged to audition. For directions or additional information about the theatre, please visitwww.OwenTheatre.com.

Those wishing to audition should prepare 16 bars in the style of the show (songs from the show are acceptable).

If asked to return for call-backs you could be asked to sing additional song(s) from the show based on the role you are being considered for. Information on the possible Call back songs will be released at a later date.

Character Breakdown

THE ACTOR (HENRY)

An aging, over-the-top Thespian who specializes in reciting Shakespeare, he is a commedia clown; his world is the stage and he knows no other reality. 
Male, 50-70 yrs old 
Speaking Role

THE BOY (MATT)

An innocent, young man who is searching for love and adventure. A bright guy, but naive and even foolish at times, approaching situations with a false bravado. 
Male, 18-25 yrs old 
Range: A2 - G4

THE BOY'S FATHER (HUCKLEBEE)

A former boisterous navy man and meticulous gardener who fakes a fight with Bellomy in hopes of getting their children to fall in love. 
Male, 40-60 yrs old 
Range: A2 - F#4

THE GIRL (LUISA)

A button-maker's young and pretty daughter, she is a romantic idealist who falls in love with Matt. She is naive, yet honest and tender. 
Female, 15-25 yrs old 
Range: B3 - B5

THE GIRL'S FATHER (BELLOMY)

A fastidious button-maker and also a picky gardener who fakes a fight with Hucklebee in hopes of getting their children together. 
Male, 40-60 yrs old 
Range: A2 - F#4

THE MAN WHO DIES (MORTIMER)

Henry's goofy sidekick and another former actor who specializes in stage deaths. A commedia clown, his world is the stage and he does not live in reality. 
Male, 30-50 yrs old 
Speaking Role

THE MUTES

Speechless presences who watch, act as the wall, and deal with props; the "invisible" stage assistants. Should be able to easily assist in the story or fade into the background unnoticed. 
Female, 20-50 yrs old 
Dance/Pantomime Role

THE NARRATOR (EL GALLO)

A rakish, handsome, sophisticated gallant and narrator of the show. He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience, but has his own darker moments. He aids the performers in orchestrating the story. 
Male, 30-50 yrs old 
Range: Ab2 - G4

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can move freely in.

Hi I'm thinking about auditioning for the part of Luisa and I was wondering if we need to come with anything prepared? If anyone knows it will be a big help :)

In one of my rare appearances in a musical, I played Henry when we did The Fantasticks at The Crighton in 1995! I can't wait to see how Jeff Baldwin stages this show.
