Weekly Meeting (30/04) - Best of the Baddies

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Sunday, 29th April 2012 @ 1:54pm

Afternoon TrekFans!

This week we're opting for a broad theme to really showcase some of our favourite Trek; everyone loves a good bad guy, and we're asking you to suggest the episodes that show your favourites at their best. Anything from Borg to Xindi, Romulans to...Harry Mudd - if you can remember the episodes that stood out for you, we want to hear about them. Please post your suggestions on our facebook event page (go on, we know you have some), and if you think we might have watched one of your choices in the last year check out our 'list of watched episodes' which can be found under the wiki tab of our the groupspaces website.

We will also be deciding which date we intend to go to the Star Trek London convention out of the three available (19-21st October) so that people can start booking tickets before they sell out - if you want to have a say in which day we go either come along to the meeting for the vote, or send me a message with your preferences

And finally, don't forget about the upcoming elections! We're looking for a new Captain (President), First Officer (Treasurer), and Communications Officer (secretary), so if you want to be part of the next generation check out the term card for position details and join us tomorrow to find out more from the people currently in these roles.

So, see you tomorrow by Oriel College lodge at 7:45pm.

Weekly Meeting (23/04) - Barclay Night

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Friday, 20th April 2012 @ 7:29pm

Evening TrekFans!

After what I hope was a relaxing holiday we're kicking off the new term with the much-requested Barclay night! We'll be following our favourite holo-adict and hypochondriac from the early days aboard the Enterprise-D through to his appearances on Voyager, so give us your favourite episode titles on our facebook event page.

We also have the new termcard for Trinity, and you'll see we're coming up to Election time. It's time for the current committee to hand over the reins to the next generation, and we'll be looking for a Captain (president), First Officer (treasurer) and Communications Officer (secretary) - check out the termcard for details, and come along to the meeting to hear more from this year's committee about what is involved before our elections in 3rd week (or send me an email if you have any questions).

This term we're relocating, and our first meeting will be held in Oriel College. Meet us by the lodge at 7:45 for an 8pm start, and don't forget to suggest some episodes!

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Friday, 24th February 2012 @ 5:17pm

Afternoon TrekFans,

For our last episode-filled meeting of term we're bringing in a new theme, 'Breaking the Rules'. Whether its the Captain, an Ensign or the whole crew, sometimes regulations go out the window and we'll be watching our favourite characters getting up to no good. From mutinies to disobeying orders, and regulation breaches to misjudged subversion, give us your episode suggestions on our facebook event page and we'll put them to a vote on the night.

As usual you'll find us by Hertford College lodge at 7:45 for an 8pm start.

See you soon!

Weekly Meeting (20/02) - College Dinner and Movie Night

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Wednesday, 15th February 2012 @ 11:56am

Morning TrekFans,

This week you're getting a super early email because it's time to sign up for this year's first TrekSoc College Dinner!

Before our regular night on Monday we'll be meeting up at St Catherine's College (a slight deviation from the termcard for the observent among you) from 6:50-8pm to enjoy a served three course meal. It's known by students and tutors alike to be one of the best halls in Oxford without the ceremony of many colleges - no gowns required, casual dress code, and only two words of latin (if you can hear them).

The menu is as follows:

Starter: Humus salad with Pitta Bread
Main: Turkey Escollop with Curried Tomato Sauce
or (Vegetarian) Mushroom and Spinach Potato Stroganoff
Dessert: Dorset Plum and Apple Pudding

The cost for all this is a staggering £4.37 (you'll need to bring the correct change on the day), so if you like the sound of this email me back by Sunday evening to book a place, letting me know if you would like the vegetarian option and whether or not you have any dietary requirements. This will be a great opportunity to get together and enjoy a nice meal while ticking off a college on your list of places to try so do join us!

Our social will be followed by a movie night back at Hertford College; if you aren't stuffed enough already we'll be bringing out the popcorn for a Trek favourite, 'The Voyage Home'. This film really has it all; a massive log that wants to talk to whales, nuclear wessels, *that* punk on a bus scene - what more could you ask for?

The regular meeting will have a late start so if you can't make the meal and want to watch the film you'll find us outside the lodge at Hertford College at 8:30pm.

See you there!

Weekly Meeting (13/02) - Romance among the stars

Greetings TrekFans,

With Valentine's only a day away we're presenting you with a classic theme to get you in the mood - Trek love and romance! We're talking marriages, flings, star-crossed lovers...if you can think of an episode featuring some some of those gooey feelings (and we know you can) suggest it on our facebook event page. We'll also be discussing arrangements for our next social, dinner at St Catherine's College, along with the convention so come along for an update!

As ever you'll find us by the lodge outside Hertford College at 7:45 for an 8pm start.

See you there!

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Friday, 3rd February 2012 @ 8:02pm

Evenin' TrekFans,

This week we're bringing you the next installment in this year's effort to watch the introductory episodes of the five Trek series: Deep Space Nine's 'The Emissary' Parts I and II! It'll be a walk down memory lane for DS9 buffs and a solution to all the 'Why are they on a space station/what is this worm hole/Bajor??' questions newbies to the series have, so come on down for this smashing two-parter.

Join us by the lodge at Hertford College at 7:45 for an 8pm start.

Weekly Meeting (30/01) - On to the Holodeck & Pub social

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Friday, 27th January 2012 @ 12:09pm

Afternoon TrekFans,

This week sees the return of our popular social from last term - a trip to the pub before our regular meeting! We're heading back to the Turf Tavern (round the corner from Hertford college - if you get lost call me on 07702779307) to enjoy a drink or two and their wonderful menu, and we hope to see you there! Everyone is welcome, so if you haven't ventured out to join us before why not come along and meet everyone?

After the social we'll head out to Hertford College to enjoy this week's episode theme: 'On to the Holodeck'. It's a Trek creation we'd all love to own, and its time to watch the characters from The Next Gen. onwards get trapped on recreated planets or explore the latest programme. Please leave your episode suggestions on the facebook event page so we can bring them along to the meeting for the vote.

Join us at the Turf Tavern at 6:30pm, or outside the lodge at Hertford College at 7:45pm for an 8pm start.

Join us for a celebration of our favourite Ferengi, and leave your episode suggestions on our facebook event page for a vote.

Weekly Meeting (16/01) - Star Trek: The Drinking Games AND Termcard

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Thursday, 12th January 2012 @ 5:58pm

Evening TrekFans,

First off, Happy New Year to all our members!

We're planning another busy term and if you'd like a peek at our termcard you'll find it attached to this email. It includes the next installment in our 'Introductory episodes' mission, themes as suggested by our members, a college dinner, a movie night, a pub trip and much much more. (Don't forget that if you'd like a say in what goes on the termcard you can attend our termly meetings in eighth week or send us your suggestions).

On Monday we'll be starting the term with easily our most frequently requested theme: a drinking games night. As usual we want your episode suggestions, and this time we want suggestions for some rules so that on the night we can vote for three...and get drinking! You can choose pretty much any episode from any series - just post on our facebook event page.

This is a BYOB event with the society providing mixers and snacks. If you don't drink it isn't a problem - why not be creative and bring an alternative? And as at the start of every term we'd like to encourage anyone who has been receiving this email but who hasn't actually attended yet to come along and check us out; this should be a really fun evening and we're always open to new members (plus the first three meetings are free!)

So join us at 7:45pm outside Hertford College lodge for an 8pm start.

Termly Meal and Meeting

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Tuesday, 22nd November 2011 @ 9:46am

Mornin' TrekFans,

Next Monday brings our termly meal, and this time we're heading to the fabulously sci-fi Atomic Burger. In case you're unfamiliar its located a couple of minutes down Cowley Road, serving a good range of reasonably priced meat and vegetarian meals (for a peek at the menu see http://atomicburger.co.uk/).

If you would like to attend, please email me back before 9pm Thursday. We will be looking to book a table for around 8pm Monday, but if we make a big group we may need to be flexible regarding time - if you can't make before/after a certain time let us know and we'll bear it in mind.

The meal will be followed by our termly meeting in the handily located G&Ds (almost next door). This is when we'll brainstorm theme ideas for next term, so if you want to get involved please do come along!

See you there!

Weekly Meeting: Transporter Accidents

E-mail sent by Louise Peterken, Saturday, 19th November 2011 @ 2:54pm

Greetings TrekFans!

This week is the last episode week of this term! Because of this, we will be going out in style with our theme for this week: transporter accidents! As always, you can suggest episodes on our Facebook page, and come along on Monday at 7:45 for the results of problems with the pattern buffer, accompanied by awesome snacks and drinks, of course. We will meeting at Hertford College as usual, so see you then!

Trekkie love,
First Officer Louise

Weekly Meeting (14/11) - Q Night and Crew Date news

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Saturday, 12th November 2011 @ 5:08pm

Evening TrekFans,

Firstly an update on the crew date situation - after a positive response from our members we are investigating setting up a crew date with RGPSoc and/or AniméSoc. Sadly this is taking a little longer than anticipated, so its unlikely to happen this week. We'll let you know as soon as these societies get back to us!

This brings us to our next meeting; the eagerly anticipated 'Q Night'. We all have a favourite episode (unless you're of the opinion that anything with Q is a classic- we can't blame you), so tell us yours on our facebook event page and we'll bring it along! There will as usual be a range of refreshments to see us through the night.

Meet us outside Hertford College lodge around 7:45 for an 8pm start.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Weekly Meeting (07/11) - Pub & Introductory Episodes

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Friday, 4th November 2011 @ 11:49am

Good morning TrekFans,

This week we have our first social - a trip to the pub before our regular meeting. We'll be settling down to some great food and drink at the Turf (4-5 Bath Place, down an alley along Holywell Street) from 6:30pm, so come along and get to know us all a bit better before heading off to Hertford...which is conveniently only a minute's walk away...

Our pub trip will be followed by a regular meeting, and this week we present you with a set menu as we embark on our termly 'Introductory Episodes' theme night. Over the course of this year we will be showing the first episodes from all the Star Trek series, and on Monday we'll be kicking off with Voyager's 'The Caretaker' parts 1 & 2, and if we have time we'll add in the Original Series' first episode, 'The Man Trap'. The first episodes tend to be classics, and if you are new to any of the series you should definitely join us for an introduction! There will of course be the usual fabulous refreshments (...if you have room after the pub)!

To recap, we're meeting at the Turf at 6:30pm for dinner and drinks on Monday, followed by our regular meeting at Hertford College (at the lodge around 7:45pm for an 8pm start) on the same day.

I hope to see you all there!

Meet us at 7:45 for an 8pm start by the lodge of Hertford College (any problems ring me on 07702779307).

I look forward to seeing you there!

A Reminder

E-mail sent by Louise Peterken, Monday, 24th October 2011 @ 11:29am

Attention all crew members!

This is a reminder that this is the last free meeting, as well as the last chance to take advantage of our Super Freshers' Introductory Membership Offer, which entitles you to a memebership of your choice (with all the confectionary and Trek you can handle) at incredible reduced prices.

The reduced fees are:
£3 for a term (normally £5)
£8 for a year (normally £10)
£13 for life (normally £17)

But this amazing offer cannot last! So if you haven't signed up yet, bring along your latinum this evening, to where there will be Trek and biscuits for all.

And now I shall stop talking like a Ferengi.

Weekly Meeting (24/10) - Mirror Universe

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Saturday, 22nd October 2011 @ 4:48pm

Monday's coming back around and its time to look to our next theme, the Mirror Universe. If the sight of Spock with a beard isn't enough to get you buzzing in your seats we'll bring you twisted Trek history and strange alliances...along with a generous dose of confectionary and a nice warm room!

Like last time we want you to give us your episode suggestions on our facebook event page (find it through the link below) and we'll vote on three when we meet. We had a fantastic number of suggestions last Monday so lets keep it up!

The meeting will take place in the Ferrar room at Hertford College, so meet us by the lodge at 7:45 for an 8pm start (any problems call 07702779307). I look forward to seeing you there!

Weekly Meeting (17/10) - 'I'm a Doctor, not a ___'

E-mail sent by Lucy E, Friday, 14th October 2011 @ 6:47pm

Good evening TrekFans!

It was fantastic to meet so many of you on Monday, and our next meeting is already fast approaching! We're going to be celebrating Star Trek's doctors; from McCoy to Crusher, Pulaski to Bashir and then the EMH Mark I, we know you have a favourite and we want to watch them in action.

This week we'll be resuming our usual format of voting for 3 episodes on the night, so we need your episode suggestions! If you can think of any you enjoyed that feature a Trek doctor post the title on our facebook event page and we'll do our best to bring it along.

Our venue on Monday will be Hertford College, and will remain the same for the rest of the term. Join us outside the lodge at 7:45 for an 8pm start and if you're late ask the porters for directions to the Ferrar room (its handily near the lodge, but if you have any problems phone 07702779307). There will of course be refreshments to see us through the evening...

Have a great weekend and I hope to see you on Monday!
