Hailing all crew members (from beyond the grave...)
This week's theme is "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)" - on Halloween, we will be watching a selection of Star Trek's scariest monsters and most nefarious villains. Come dressed up if you want, it doesn't have to be Trek-themed! We will again be meeting outside Somerville College plodge at 7.45pm on Monday - see you there!
p.s. Please remember your money for subs if you haven't yet paid! Thanks :)
Hey there crew!
This week's theme is "All About Enterprise", so vote for your favourite ENT or TAS - technically, TAS is set on the enterprise, so it still counts ;). We will be meeting at Somerville college plodge at 7.45pm on Monday.
Remember to put Thursday 5th week in your diaries - Doctor Who Soc will once again be hosting the geek quiz, a chance to do battle with other Oxford geek societies for the honour of being the biggest nerds in Oxford! Later this term, we are scheduling a hall swap in 6th Week, crew date in 7th and Atomic Pizza dinner in 8th - exact dates and times to be scheduled later, so watch out on the Facebook page for our event polls!
Hailing frequencies open!
I hope you all enjoyed last week's meeting, it was great to see so many of you there. This week, we will again be meeting on Monday at Somerville college, at the same time of 7.45pm. This week's theme is "All Time Favourites, Part 2" - if you want to vote for your favourite Deep Space Nine, Voyager or Enterprise episodes, head over to our Facebook group where we have a poll up.
Hello and welcome to our new crew members!
Star Trek Society is kicking off this Monday at Somerville College. The theme for the next two weeks will be "All Time Favourites", starting with the original series and The Next Generation this week, followed by Deep Space Nine and Voyager next week. We will meet outside Somerville College plodge at 7.45pm; if you are coming later then text me (07821251639) or message me on Facebook and we will come to let you in. Don't forget to join the Facebook group, the Oxford Star Trek Society!
It's the last week of term, and that means MOVIE NIGHT! Remember to vote in the Facebook poll for your choice, and I'll see you at 7.45pm outside St John's (NOT Pembroke). No trivia this week, as I *should* be busy revising rather than trawling the internet for Trek memes...
It's been a wonderful year of TrekSoc and I hope to see you all at John's for one final voyage.
This week we have HALL SWAP, the details of which are below. Monday's theme will be "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", so please add your suggestions for the kookiest Trek aliens on the Facebook poll. As usual, we will be meeting at 7.45pm outside St. John's.
Hope Week 5 blues isn't getting you down... to cheer you up, this week's theme is Star Trek romances, featuring "Anyone But Kirk". Remember to vote on the poll!
We also have the society trip to ATOMIC BURGER this Tuesday at 6pm, and the GEEK QUIZ on Thursday at 8pm, in St Peter's College. Hope to see you there :-)
This week's meeting will be at the usual time of 7.45 PM outside St. John's.
Apologies for the lateness of this email, I've yet to get in the habit of being a Captain! This week's theme is "The Interstellar Catwalk", featuring the wackiest of Trek costumes (check the link in trivia to see a selection...). We will be meeting as usual at 7.45pm outside St John's
Hope to see you there,
It's my first week as Star Trek Captain and so this week's theme is "Maiden Voyages" - my suggestion being Where No Man Has Gone Before, the original series pilot. Meetings will continue to be held at St. John's for this term, so we will be meeting at
7.45pm outside St. John's
Apologies for the lack of trivia this week, I need to up my game when it comes to dank memes...
And so I am writing my final email as Captain (violins in distance).
I just wanted to say thank you all very much for the past year, it has been a pleasure helping to run this society and seeing it grow into what it has become today (I am, of course, referring to the drastic increase in membership following freshers' week last October). TrekSoc is such a staple in my life and I just wanted to thank you all for making my Monday nights so enjoyable. I shall, of course, be returning to the society each week!
Right enough of that, now tomorrow, elections are the first order of business, anybody interested in any of the comittee positions up for grabs, look at the below section of the email which has all the info you need.
Additionally, Nathan will not be around tomorrow so If anybody has a laptop with an HDMI port could you please bring it?! (It may win you some extra points if you are going for Technical Officer!)
Meeting time this week is pushed back a little bit to account for a pesky rehearsal that has cropped up in my life (BUY CABARET TICKETS) so we will be meeting at:
8:15 for an 8:30 start at St. Johns college!
Otherwise, please read the rest of the email for the theme and other stuff (there may or may not be a plug) and I'll see you all tomorrow!
Captain Spiller, signing off.
It's Callum back with another email, although his week's is a rare pre-12am message! It is my penultimate email as Captain (cue emotional bells and violins) and so I must remind all that the elections for Captain, First Officer and Technical Officer are to be held next week and that all who are considering applying for the role must do so as more information will be given tomorrow and over the course of next week!
This week's meeting will be held slightly later at 8:30 tomorrow at St. John's College, meeting at 8:15 outside of the lodge
Otherwise I hope you have all had a great break, please read the rest of the email for this week's theme!
lots of love,
Hi Everyone still in Oxford/are around Oxford
Just a message for those who have yet to see the Facebook post, there is a meeting TONIGHT at St. John's where we will be getting Pizza and watching the classic (lol I've yet to even see it) Ghostbusters!
We will not be meeting outside the lodge but straight inside John's DVD room at 7:45, the usual time!
Make sure you bring your own snacks, drink and cash (for Pizza tonight) !!
See you all soon,
It's week 8 finally and it's time to kick back with one of the films!
Contrary to what I said last week, access to Pembroke auditorium has now been DENIED :'( so this week's meeting will be at St. Johns at the usual time! (7:45 meeting outside the lodge)
Vote on the Facebook poll to decide which film we watch!
Also, hall swap is on Tuesday, if you still haven't signed up please message our resident Keblite, Rose!
This is my last email of the term so I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for making it such a good one! Monday nights have been keeping me sane over the past few weeks which I am very appreciative of!
See you all tomorrow!
It is Sunday (Monday) once more and it's time for another meeting! Sadly due to a huge concert I'm in this week I won't be able to make this week's meeting [:'(] Although I will be able to be part of the pub away team afterwards so please let me know where you are going!!
This week event-wise I beleive it is Atomic Pizza, I'm not entirely certain of the date but I am more than sure Linda will be filling you all in tomorrow night!!
Otherwise I hope you've all had a stunning week and are not feeling to drowsy towards the end of term!! (I do believe Nathan has yet to have his termly existential crisis but my word how is it 7th week already?!
As some of you may have noticed, there are two new polls on the facebook page. Please respond to them soon!
For Hall Swap, we're looking at going to Keble - but, due to availability, the only day we would be able to do it is Tuesday of 8th week (8th March). Please respond if you can or cannot make it!
Since Hall Swap is now in 8th week, we'll be doing Atomic Pizza in 7th week. Please respond to that poll saying which days you're available so I know when and how many people to book a table for. Feel free to bring people from outside of Trek Soc, but (obviously) please tell me so I book enough seats!

This is your reminder for this term’s Geek Quiz!
It’ll be happening at 8pm this Thursday (the 18th) in the Dorfman Centre of St Peter’s College - NOT the Magdalen theatre like last term. Don't go to Magdalen.
Maps of St Peter’s location and layout are available here: http://www.spc.ox.ac.uk/about/getting-st-peters/maps
I’ll be outside the lodge from about 7:45pm to make sure no one gets lost on the way to the room. As far as I know a bod card is needed to get into the college, so make sure you have yours with you – especially if you’re going to be late! If you forget your card/ get lost and can't find us, feel free to contact me and I’ll help as best I can.
A reminder for those of us who are bringing rounds:
1. You can score your round as you like, but no team may score more than 10 points on a round, to prevent a single round having an undue influence on the scores. Feel free to have more than 10 opportunities to score points, but be aware that scores are capped. Also, half-points are okay, but no other fractions.
2. Rounds must not be based around a single fandom i.e. no rounds based entirely on Doctor Who, or entirely on Star Wars, or entirely on programming languages (this did actually happen once, and is why we made the rule in the first place)
Additionally, Whosoc is asking for people to include a visual component for the rounds if possible (like a print out, or powerpoint slides with the questions) as there will be at least one deaf attendee. Rounds which are based on identifying sounds or music are still allowed. A laptop will be provided, and to my knowledge speakers will be as well.
Hope to see you all then!
Linda J. Canton
I hope you've all had a fantastic week!
Firstly I'd like to say congratulations to Linda for being elected to the new position on the comittee as Morale Officer. She will be handling social events/fun activities/stash (I believe) in future so expect some cheery emails from her as well as my somnambulous ravings!
Secondly, we are meeting once again at St. John's outside the Lodge at quarter to 8.
Thirdly, for 5th week, our Technical Officer is taking a leave of absence and so we will be in need of a laptop which has an HDMI output in order to play episodes that week. If anyone has this please could you let me know if you are willing to bring it along that week (there may be some points towards the role of technical officer in the coming Trinity term elections!)
Otherwise, I hope your 4th week is fruitful and so I shall see you all tomorrow! (Later)
Check out the theme section below for info regarding that!
Hey there everyone!
It's week 3 (already?!) and it appears Phantom is making me lose my sanity as for some reason this is being written on a Sunday afternoon.
This week, as mentioned previously, is the election week for the new role of Morale officer, a post that will last until Trinity 2017 (as it's being introduced out of sync with the other comittee positions). We'll be doing elections at the start of tomorrow's meeting which will be at St. John's at the usual time (although not usual for this term) of 7:45; meeting outside of St. Johns lodge.
I hope you've all had a fab week and I'm looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
I hope you've all had a good week. I have one notice to give about the new comittee position of Morale Officer and also this weeks theme in the sections below!
Additionally this weeks meeting is also later due to a malfunction in the U.S.S St John's T.V room and so the DVD room is engaged until later to accomodate the University Challenge programme.
So this week we will be meeting at 8:25 outside St John's lodge on Monday
So I'll see you all tomorrow!
ATTENTION CREW: REROUTE NEEDED
Due to an unexpected anomaly in the DVD Room sector, tonight's rendez-vous will need to be delayed by half an hour.
Instead we shall be meeting tonight at 8:15 outside of St. Johns!
That's 8:15 tonight outside St. Johns, sorry for the late notice!
