SUMMARY

Forces Stories and Poems: Lives touched by service – new writing

Kingston University Press announces a competition to celebrate the 125th anniversary of The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help, the charity that cares for those who serve or have served in Britain’s armed forces, and supports their families. The general theme is “service life and work” and the competition is open to anyone over 18 who has been touched by service, whether as a participant, a family member or as an observer. The judges will be looking for work that catches their attention and engages the reader’s imagination.

Deadline: Midnight on 17 Dec 2010

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The judges include award-winning writers, Maree Giles (novelist), Vahni Capildeo (poet and memoirist) and Alison Baverstock (non-fiction author) as well as Creative Writing Faculty from Kingston University. They will be looking for well-crafted work which shows a keen attention to the language used and the form chosen.

This literature will begin to create a social document that should be of public interest.

Kingston University Press (KUP) will consider publication of selected contributions
