16th European Groupwork Symposium
8th-10th September 2010
‘Groupwork and Well-Being’
Advance Notice and Call for Papers
Recent years have seen the emergence in human services of ‘Positive Psychology’, and other approaches to ‘Well-Being’.
Groupwork has a key role to play here. So, this symposium will show how groupwork is contributing to well‑-being initiatives, ranging from work with schoolchildren, to DIY Happiness work with adults in the community.
The symposium will bring together a number of British pioneers in this field and we welcome presentations from colleagues in other parts of the world. The event will interest any professional working in health, social work or education, whether a social worker, a psychologist or a counsellor.
The Symposium Planning Group is being convened by Dr Jerome Carson and Dr Ilona Boniwell, who seek proposals from groupworkers from any setting or professional background who would like to contribute either:
• A WORKSHOP. You should provide a plan of how you intend to engage participants and make the workshop interactive. A workshop would usually take about one and a half hours.
• A PAPER. Either a short introductory piece describing an example of groupwork linked to the theme, with your critical reflections – should take about 20 minutes, with some time added for questions at the end. or
• A MAJOR PAPER exploring the Symposium themes theoretically or conceptually.
Presentations should be sensitive to a mixed audience (international, multiprofessional and multidisciplinary), accessible and anti‑-oppressive.
Please send your ideas for papers or workshops via an abstract of up to 250 words, which should be sent (preferably as an email attachment) to the Joint Convenor:
Dr Jerome Carson, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Southwestern CMHT, 380 Streatham High Road, London SW16 6HP. England. Jerome.Carson@slam.nhs.uk
Proposals should reach us by 21st May 2010.For programme details when available, and to book a place if you just wish to attend,
