Information about Spina Bifida

This is the second year Team McAllen Cycling are undertaking this event - we had 80 cyclist complete the trek last year raising $11,500 for Spina Bifida Texas

What it is...

Spina Bifida appears in the first 28 days of a pregnancy, before most women know they are pregnant. This birth defect occurs when the lower end of the spinal cord does not form properly in the developing baby. Paralysis, loss of bowel and bladder control, hydrocephalus and learning disabilities are among the issues associated with Spina Bifida.

Why we care...

Spina Bifida affects 2 in every 1,000 Births in Texas.

Did you know...

Spina Bifida can easily be prevented by taking 400mcg of Folic Acid every day. Share this important information with all the women in your life.
