The purpose of the Stanford Chapter is to facilitate an active exchange of ideas regarding coastal and ocean issues; to enhance interdisciplinary awareness and understanding of these issues and ideas; and to provide its members with access to a resource base of regional, national, and international professionals during their transition into careers as leaders in coastal and ocean related fields.
The Stanford Chapter is an affiliated chapter of the larger national Coastal Society. The Coastal Society was organized for the educational purposes of: promoting knowledge, understanding, and wise use of coastal environments; fostering interdisciplinary cooperation and communication among professionals, interest groups, and individuals concerning coastal environments; encouraging wise use of coastal resources consistent with the dynamic natural processes of coastal environments; providing public information about the importance of effective research and management programs; articulating positions on proposed legislation and policies.
