About the play

‘O beware my lord of jealousy; it is the green eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.’

Southend Shakespeare Company present a dramatic and dynamic production of Shakespeare’s most intimate and personal tragedy. A story of a hero, a villain and a pure young heart. A story of love, prejudice, treachery and passion.

When Iago, ensign to the noble Moor Othello, is passed over for promotion and sees his general secretly marry Desdemona, the daughter of a powerful Venetian senator, the scene is set for one of the great revenge tragedies in the history of theatre.

Shakespeare’s chilling account of the impact on lives of jealousy and retribution, which transcends time and is as relevant today as it has ever been:-

The tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice.
