Are you interested in making $50 for writing just 250 words? The UK Colonel, a satirical publication on campus, is hosting its annual article/cartoon contest for students, faculty, and staff! All submissions MUST be satirical in nature-- think The Onion or The Daily Show-- but there are no limits when it comes to subject matter. Articles must be 250 words or more, but cartoons can be in any format. Deadline for submissions is March 22.
Prizes will be awarded for the three best articles ($50, $20, and $10 for first, second, and third place, respectively) and for the best cartoon ($20). All prize-winning submissions will be published in our April 1st edition. For more information (or to be inspired!) please check out our website:www.ukcolonel.com. All questions and submissions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Many of you have expressed interest in the upcoming National Novel Writing Month (NanoWrimo). NanoWrimo is a worldwide movement in which people write a 50,000 word novel from scratch between November 1 and November 30.
If you are interested, join the on-campus group of writers who are getting together to participate. The facilitator is Nathan DeWall, a professor in the Department of Psychology and co-director of A&S Wired, the newish Residential College. For the second year, he is leading a student group for NanoWrimo. He says, "Last year was a blast!"
He invites English majors and members of Sigma Tau Delta to take part in the group, which will meet on Sundays at 6:00 pm in Keeneland Hall beginning October 28. Students can email him if they're interested.
