A brief report in a poor weekend including a heavy loss on Friday evening in the Godden cup.
Away at Bromley, the 1s were immediately in trouble sitting at 14 for 4. However, thanks to some good batting from Jake Benfield 53 and Ben Allon 40, and a flurry from the tail (Rowey 20, Mike James 12 not out) Sibton got themselves to 174 in the 46th over.
However in reply in form Wayne Morgan punished the bowlers with a quick fire 54 and all too soon it was all over in the 30th over. Bromley lost 4 wickets but never really looked in trouble. For a change Mikey didn't get any wickets, Bucks picked up 2 and Rowey & Tugboat 1 a piece.
Meanwhile at home, visitors Linden Park decided to have a bat. As the Sibton bowlers and fielders toiled in the field, Linden Park made a PAR 219 on a decent batting pitch if a bit low. Too many misfield, poor fielding and drop catches gave Linden Park 40-50 runs too many (Bearing in mind the guy that got 36 was dropped first ball!!!)
That said it was better towards the end, and wickets were taken.
However the batting reply was very poor on a pitch that you shouldn't be getting out on.
It soon became apparent the total wasn't likely to be got when wicket after wicket tumbled even after people had got in.
Harry Wren provided some refreshing shot making with a nice 40 and Adam Lamberton batting lower down this week was comfortable making 41. However a questionable LBW then catch appeal went against Lamberton and an LBW 3 foot outside the crease and shaping to leg ended the Sibton tail holding up proceedings. The 2s finished on a paltry 145 in the 46th over.
People need to learn to just bat and bat and bat and bat...... and not have to hit a four every ball.
Still some good things to come out of, particularly the youngsters.
Sterner tests next week as both teams take on stiff opposition in Hartley, 1s at home and 2s away.
